Pedal Steel In The Faroe Islands

Well its great news. We have been asked to come back to the Faroe Islands for a second round of musical fun. The Faroese folks are so talented. When we went in '09 we were asked to back a bunch of their artists.....Their musical styles range from traditional country to R&B....Each artist is a world class talent. Each artist gets about a ten minute rehearsal day of the gig...basically to check the charts and than we pretty much have to improvise our way through what we can retain after rehearsing about 40 songs in a day......The band is Paul Leim, Brent Mason, David Hungate, Bryan Sutton, John Hobbs, and yours truly.
I was just sent this clip from a friend over there.....It was pretty cool that the artist who had never worked with a steel gave part of the fade solo to me. ...Anyway I got through it with just a few minor scratches.

The music and Paul were great. I was not familiar with the Faroe Islands so went to Wikopedia and had a late life geopgraphy and history lesson. They might be a nice place to visit but would not want to live there. My last name is Danish, so maybe I should have known.

Paul, that's why you guys are the A team...If I had to rehearse 40 songs I'd never heard in one day, I wouldn't remember what country I was in, much less any of the tunes. Congrats on what's got to be a great gig, and it was good to see you again last month and say "Hi" at the S.I. Will

Thanks for all the nice comments.......The truth is I love this community of musicians.......They make everything easier and very challenging for me to keep up with......Learning 40 songs without number charts would be impossible.....The great thing here is we were mostly just improvising with all of the chords, intros, stops, fill sections, and endings laid out on paper....Paul Leim had the toughest job. He had to remember each groove correctly.

As for the tone always being me, I thought I'd edit the original post to put up a few clips to demonstrate how amplification and guitars do change the nuance of a players tone. All clips sound like me and they all sound different.

My personal favorite combination is the last clip......

I got to play through a Little Walter a couple weeks ago. It was sweet. Hopefully one of these days I'll get one. Paul, are you using the 15 watt head for overdrive only in the studio ? Thanks again for the clips.

The first tune (Her) is simply a classic. The entire band grooves led by the drummer and bassist and each individual musician adds to entire palette of sound.

Definitely downloading that video and adding the music to my iPod. DIdn't understand a word in the lyrics, but who cares...this is simply a terrific piece of music, played by terrific musicians

I use the 15 watt in the studio only....If I was touring I would probably take both the 50/50 and the 15 and use an A/B switch.
