Mr. Beers , once again we see your TRUE COLORS ...I hope you NEVER are faced with losing your silver spoon and you have to live in my shoes. Chances are you probably wont make it very far..
Bo in a fair and honest reply to your comment . I dont know who doanated and who didnt as many were of anonymous nature. What ever the case may be I can say that the majority of the equipment was not donated in any way.
Frank, I dont know what you are trying to point out with your link but my wife's condition has never been ruled as pre existing..
Now , if you would like to check out some of what I am facing , go price things such as cooling vest, power scooters , Avonex injection..These should be enough to keep you entertained for a little..If not I have about 40 rejection letters and sorries for you.,

David,
I agree with those who say that this looks bad. You may not see past your obvious (and real!) family problems, and realize that what you're doing could be offensive to people who have heard your cry for help, and who responded in ways that they could (like giving you stuff). Generous people want to help others; sometimes people's behavior makes generous people question if someone actually has a need, or is scamming. I don't think you are scamming. But this does seem to be in poor taste.
However: To the harshest voices,
I don't think it's fair to equate David's shortsightedness (I hope) with Ron S. Simply for this reason...Ron asked for stuff to build a guitar for a young, poor student. He even created a second profile for the "student" and posted playing. Then he created another set of profiles to use in Europe and sell the stuff given to him "in his great need." He even tried to sell on the Forum, but was careless and was caught. The whole deal was insane and hurtful to say the least.
While David has waffled on his needs, hopes, dreams and fears, I don't see the parallel with Ron.
I have wanted a couple of things David has to sell, but have not bought them for this very reason.
My ultimate position on this? Luke 6:27-36. AND if you are not interested in this sort of position...don't read it, it ain't for you.

I think if you donate to a charity or give someone a gift it should be done with an open heart. You cannot attach strings or requirements to a gift if it was given for the right reason. What a person does with that gift is their choice. It does not always make the giver happy, but there is also a saying that what goes around, comes around.

Ray&Allen I totally agree if you give something then give it. But I do sort of see both sides even though David has been my friend.Ray Anderson wrote:@ Alan, That is the sum total of this whole matter. I couldn't agree more. Charity has no strings attached, if you can't fully and unconditionally give....then don't give. JMHO
David none of my business but sometimes when someone opens a can of worms maybe it would be better to delete the can of worms.... there are those who will never agree with you for any reason. This only fuels their writings...&post

I wanted to stay out of this and probably should, but I say leave the guy alone. He obviously is hurting for cash right now. I can relate. I am having to sell some things I didn't want to because of hard times. Let him sell his stuff and maybe he will just go away. Just call this a lesson to all of us and don't be taken in by him in the future.

Alan, I do respect that sentiment, and I actually don't have anything to say either way on David's plight because I did not have any type of transaction with him. But I do have to point out that it's not always easy to accept that your donation is misused. Not saying that David is or isn't doing anything inappropriate with what he has received for free here on the forum; however, here is my experience with donations on the forum:Alan Tanner wrote:I think if you donate to a charity or give someone a gift it should be done with an open heart. In 2004 a good friend of mine and steel mentor passed away. His widow gave me his steel and amp. It was a thoughtful and generous gesture. I used the steel for a few years, both gigging and at home. So when a forum member posted a request for donations to help a disadvantaged steel student, I thought that my friend's steel would be a great candidate for this project. I had moved on to more modern steels, and it wasn't getting used a lot. I sent it to the forum member. A few months later another forum member notified me that he had bought my friend's steel from the guy who had requested the donation. And I watched the original recipient sell the original case right here on the forum. To me this was in bad taste to my friend's memory - a disrespectful way to handle a steel that has such a history. And it turned out that the whole student story was fictitious. For further thanks, I'm still receiving hate mail four years later from the guy to whom I made the donation. And when he reads this, he will send me yet another angry message from one of his numerous addresses that I will once again ignore and block. This is the legacy of my donation.
Therefore, as much as giving without expectations is probably the "Christian" way to handle such donations, I was very upset to know that my effort to carry on a generous gesture was abused and taken advantage of for profit. To my great pleasure, however, the forum member who unknowingly bought the steel from the scammer refurbished it and sold it back to me at a very fair price once he realized what had transpired. So karma did prevail. The story did end on a positive note, and the steel was returned to me better than ever.
Once again, I am not trying to relate this to David's situation; I am just making sure that this idea of "giving and letting go" is given some real-life perspective.

Best advice so far!David, You made a very strong plea for equipment and many forum members very kindly donated equipment and money to help you to be able to continue playing music. To sell the equipment donated to help you is probably not good. Instead just return the equipment to those who donated it. By doing that your forum friends will respect you and continue to be your friends. We will continue to pray for you and your wife and to offer assistance as we have done in the past . Just some friendly advice!
This little guy picked up on it right away:
And now it is his duty to send up this:

Or go to Canada, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Nova Scotia, Finland, Iceland, the rest of the civilized world, and ask your self why we are the only country that doesn't take care of our sick. Disgraceful. Rick Abbott, you understand the essence. Bless you.

There you have it in a nut shell.. It is a proven fact that the U.S supplies medical needs to third world countries for virtually pennies on the dollar while they raise the prices to un affordable rates to their own people .Then they bame the deficit..
There are way too manty people in this country who have the decision each month of "Do I buy medicine or food "
Turn on any news channel any day you want and you hear , bad economy , huge defidit and so on. THEN not even 5 minutes later you hear the U.S is sending BILLIONS of aid to somebody else - I say take care of your own and let the others fend for themselves for a while.
Curtis , you might be careful of where the little dog roams - he may get neutered.

Stop begging and start working! People have "helped" until they're blue in the face!
Now you're gonna quit and sell all of "your" gear??
Go to the Tele Forum and start a new beggary there!
Get a fresh batch of leads. Your pickins are getting stale here...........
Now go!
I'm watching you!....

On the backs of the working middle class!!!!
Check your cell phone bill. You'll see that you are paying for welfare recepients to have a cell phone!
How is that right?

I never get on the forum and see what people have posted, sold or what they have received as donations. The bottom line is his wife is ill and needs help and he is not getting it. I do not know David nor have never met him and am taking his word at face value. My self, I want to have compassion on those who are hurting. I would bet none of us would like to sell our musicial equiptment to help pay medical expenses. There has been a time or two I thought it would happen but I was fortunate and did not have to do so. Best wishes David for you and the wife.

I'm a new member at the forum, and seeing how aggressive people are becoming is making me question the benefit. Either side of this post detracts from the information sharing a lot of us signed up for and seeing much more of this type of debacle might have me sorting out all of my questions by myself in front of my steel instead of engaging other steel players on the forum. Grow Up!
Sincerely,

It's about some people taking advantage of others good nature...........
You don't just beg everyone to give you free musical equipment because you are going through hard times, then just decide to quit and sell it all(keeping the money)at the drop of a hat.
This is not the first "Last Call" sale by Beckner.

Do the people who have donated items have anything to say about David's sale? If not, I would assume they think it's okay. There's not much else to be said or done about it, really.

The bottom line. Indeed. No matter what any of us others feel. If those who donated are sh***y then they need to deal with him over it. I think it's a dirty way to do people myself but if the donors are okay with it then que sera sera.

Bo in a fair and honest reply to your comment . I dont know who doanated and who didnt as many were of anonymous nature. What ever the case may be I can say that the majority of the equipment was not donated in any way.
Curt , I dont recall at any given point that you posted as being one of few who did donate.. If so you are more than welcome to call me at 270-797-8253 , I will more than gladly arrange for you to be reimbursed since you seem to be having such a hard time dealing with this matter. If not I see no reasoning behind your bitching.
