Reply to Ben Rubright and David Coplin questions
Hello, Thanks for the responses. To Ben, yes I am in the picture of steel players who were at the 1958 Reunuin. I hadn't heard about the picture until I was visiting with Leon Mc Auliffe, he mentiioned it and told me to be sure to be there. David Rubright, I remember those first appearances well, I may even have a picture which was taken of a group of the "younger"attendees , but I'm sorry that I don't remember a lot of the names from then. It's great to hear from you and to hear that you still remember us. I also wanted to mention that for those who knew Ann and may not have heard, Ann Jones passed away in 1986. She was great to work with and became like a second mother to me. We were fortunate to be able to do as much traveling around the world and the privilege of meeting so many great people, as well as having the opportunity to meet so many of our fellow musicians and form those friendships. When I left the band I settled in Tucson, Az. where I worked with several local bands. (Once a musician, always a musician). I'll look forward to reading more about what's happening with you all. I am still picking whenever something comes up.

I've had a fair number of female pedal steel students. To my great disappointment, almost none of them have stuck with it.
Current student Lisa Walker is working very hard and really "getting it," I expect great things from her down the road. She studied several years with my friend and associate Chris Allen Burke (deceased in 2011), he really laid a good groundwork for her. She always asks great questions, and her technique is excellent.
(Lisa does use picks, they just got waylaid in this staged portrait!)

Peggy Green, one of the good ones who I loved to see get more credit..Peggy worked the Boston area with John Penny in the 80s,and made the 90 mile drive nightly to play in my band for about 4 months..Last I heard Peggy a Minnesota Native was in California after a Texas Stay and Japan where she recorded one of the Cds that were availible here on the Forum..Peggy showed up one year at the ISGC and with Jim Smith also there along with Smiley it was like old home week..A great player..

John, I would like to get known with your student Lisa, her smile makes me think it would be great fun to get known with her.
Please say hello from me.
I am so amazed to find this threat: When it started I did not even know how a pedal steel Guitar looks like - and now I can't imagine a live without picking.
It is so encouraging to see all the ladies!
I know there is one picking lady in Austria and another one in Switzerland

I tried to teach my first wife. That was a DISASTER. After about 10 minutes, she quit, on her own. She said it was hard. She said you got your hands going two different ways, Your feet and knees going two different ways. She said it was too COMPLICATED. Then I put a guitar in her hands, and they were too small to make the chords. So she just sat back and did what she did best, NAG!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Blanche Emerson White
That one's easy...See,steel guitar music is partly paranormal in nature.Playing steel guitar makes a gal a babe.Unfortunately,it makes us guys look (ahem!) like the "You just don't look cool playing that steel" thread.Ron Whitfield wrote:
And guys, how come steel guitar attracts the prettiest girl players?! Boy, are we lucky!

Re: With Rod Stewart
Robin Ruddy plays steel and dobro really well-she played steel with Rod Stewart at one time, and now she plays dobro with a friend of mine named Christine Bauerlee, a country/blues singerBill Bassett wrote:Has this young lady been mentioned on this thread? Lynda Wright, from Indianapolis, IN, she played at the PSGA show back this past November in Norwalk, CT.
She was in an all girl Swing Band and traveled overseas doing USO Shows. She lived for a while in LA and many years in Vegas.
Her husband played with Frank Sinatra Jr. amoung others. Got to talk with them for a while, nice people.
