In bygone days, alcoholism was a killer for many younger steel guitar players. In later years, dope/drugs seemed to become the dominant factor in the downfall of many younger county music musicians.

I could be wrong but have those distractions to pursuing one's musical career diminished by a large margin? Could this be because the pedal steels cost so much money that the significance of a well-paying day job dominates the wanna-be's mind set?

Rock Stars still seem to be dropping like flies but I've not detected it in 'our' steel guitar world like it was at one time.
