What is it?

Post by Tommy Thompson »

About 8 years ago in Tampa I walked into a studio carrying a single 10 msa, and the record producer of German decent which also was a Rock musician laughed  for some time and then ask me, What is that? But he actually said he liked it later. Go figure

HOW did this good church brother KNOW that a Pedal Steel is a BAR instrument?. I guess he didn't allow Guitars either,Bass,harmonica....and PIANO's that one was GREAT LOL....
I remember one Church woman who asked the Preacher if he felt the evil spirits in the Church he told he he didn't feel them because he didn't entertain them////LOL

steel names

Post by Pastor Bruce Kiser »

hi guys!
had to chime in on this - though slightly over to the side of topic.
what is often overlooked is the fact that PEOPLE were often barroom instruments, etc.,until meeting God.
and what do we say to the verse in psalms stating
that God can be praised on an "INSTRUMENT OF 10
STRINGS"!
never had my steels called funny names yet , but
it probably will occur sooner or later.
thanks for a chance to have a say and thanks for
a place where we can come together and express our
observations, opinions, and love for such a fine
instrument--and thanks to our God above for allowing
such music to touch all our lives!what if He didn't?

Doing a gig some time ago with a more 'Rock' orientated band.

Punter: What's that thing you're playing?
Me: It's A Pedal Steel Guitar.
Punter: Never seen one before. Where does it come from?
Me: It's mostly known for it's role in Country Music.
Punter: Then why do I like it?

Country Music is not big in South Africa.

Sorry to be a bit off topic, but there are many geographies around the world that have never seen one.

My daughter saw my guitar set up this morning for the first time, and remarked, "Is that some sorta weird autoharp on legs or something?"

but before I could go into lecture mode, My wife said,

"No - its a pedal steel guitar."

Ah, progress!

My friend Curry Coster once referred to it as "A Divorce Machine" and I tend to agree. It's sort of a Chick Magnet until the Chick learns that the Steel Guitar means more to you than they do. Tommy......
