I'm considering putting a whole step raise w/ a half stop on the first string and half step raise on the seventh. This would go on my RKR. I would move my D lever with the half stop to LKR. Any thoughts? This is what my final copedent would look like:
RKL: E lever 4L 8L
LKL: F lever 4R 8R
LKR: D lever 2LL 9L
RKR: G lever 1RR 7R
This would be with the Day setup. _________________ Johnny Up PSG Lessons @

I think that's an unsatisfying compromise.
The first string whole step raise usually accompanies 2nd string to E. Leaving it at D# misses something.
At the same time, the 7th string half step raise usually pairs with the 1st string to G.
While I've no doubt those who don't think like me might well find some cool stuff, I'd find it a frustrating pair of half-changes.
Were I in your shoes, I'd contemplate either a fourth pedal or fifth knee, using both semi-standard changes. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Well regardless of what others think, I don't ask questions to ignore answers. I do have LKV that currently lowers 5&10 a half step. I've been playing a couple years and have yet to truly utilize this change, but I don't want to limit myself in the future as well. _________________ Johnny Up PSG Lessons @

Steel players resemble economists: all of them, laid end to end would still never reach an agreement.
I raise 1 and 2 with P1, and I have a lever dropping 6 to F# and raising 1 to G, the B pedal taking that F# to G.
I spent a year finger-pulling 1 to G#, which carried 2 to E as a happy coincidence, before moving A, B and C over to accommodate the P0.
I am currently considering swapping the 1&6 change with the A# lever, as I often find myself wishing to combine that F# with either the dropped Es or the 2&9 lower.
Not trying to persuade, just sharing my Whys along with my Whats. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I have that change and also lower my Es on my right knee as you. SD10 3&5, E9th, basically:
LKL...Raises 4&8
RKL...Lowers 4&8
LKR...Raises 1 whole w/hs, 2 half, 7 half
RNR...Lowers 2 half, 9 half
Vert..Lowers 5&10 half
This is a work in progress and will change it on a whim, but I always seem to gravitate back to this. Are there other changes I'd like to have? Of course! All of them. |

If you're comfortable with the half stops, then I think you might like using your RKR to raise 1RR, and 2R and 7RR. Raising string 1 and 2 together is nice and very common nowdays. I used to have that, but never liked half stops, so I decided I'd rather have just string 1 and 7 go up a half. I also lost interest in lowering B's 5 and 10 a half. My next set up will have string 1 and 7 raise on vertical lever and string 6 G# o F# on RKL. On another note, I've found that I like using B pedal combined with the lever that raises E's to F and drop 1/2 fret to sub for the lowering of the Bs. That opens up another lever! _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |
