I know this topic has been discussed at length and I've read many of the threads, but.....could one of you fender/steel guys summarize (for the layman) what it is you do when you voice one channel of a twin for pedal steel and the other for tele?

I always set the twin for the tele, then used a GE-7 EQ pedal to dial in the steel by cutting the 800 slider and adding bass. Worked for me, anyway.

I'd start with basic EQ approaches, no extras.

For steel, people have found that settings with Bass about 5 or 6, midrange about 4, and Treble around 3.5 is a pretty good zone. This naturally puts your midrange dip around 750Hz to 800Hz. I think these Twin tone settings are pretty close to Lloyd Green's.

Then for Tele, cut the bass back a bit and give it more treble than that. Maybe more mids too.

Alan, you might look here http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=510361 and do other searches on the forum and internet. I did a mod to a twin that built from a kit, that put reverb on both channels and the slope resistor from 100K TO 56K. The reverb mod, I like because I can daisy chain channel 1@2 together now because both channels are in Phase. The slope resistor mod I did on just one channel and, for me, I just don't hear a big difference between channel 1@2. That's just me though. I thank Ken Fox for telling me about these mods, He is a wealth of information and a great guy to help us tinker'ers out. Dale

Thanks for the replys. I probably could have been more specific with the title. I'm talking about modifying one channel to be optimal for steel and the other for six string, including getting reverb and tremolo on channel one. I have a silverface twin/master volume/pull boost that needs work and I was hoping to have some details about these mods before I spoke with our local tech. He's into fender amps but not a steel player.
Dale....thanks for the link. I did come across that thread shortly after posting and that's the kind I was hoping to be directed to....specifics about parts, as well as the whys that a non-tech(me) can understand. Got any more? I want to use my twin for double duty, hence the reverb on both channels, and I figure while he's got it why not do a few other things to it. I will say, it's not like it sounds bad for steel the way it's voiced now, I just want to have some understanding of what could be better.
Brad....thanks for the settings. I tend to keep the tone controls in the middle, though I run it with less treble. Thumbs up for the Lloyd sound. My favorite guitar these days is my round front Pro II. .......and I'm still lovin the Earth Drive, btw.
