So, I just downloaded the Cleartune app for my iPhone, and tuned my D8 Stringmaster. I first set the selection for the "Standard Just Intonation" and temperament key to "C" and tuned. Sounds pretty good! I then changed the temperament key to "E" and tuned the E13 neck. Also good!

To see what the difference was, I put it in Equal Temperament, and started tuning the E neck, 1st string E first. WOW! it shows up about 15 or 16 cents sharp!! Why is this? If my guitar player tunes using his BOSS TU3 or his Snark tuner, will our E's be out of tune? I'm confused at how this all works, but I know there's a logical explanation. I know in the Just temperaments, the two necks sound great. And if I pluck the low E on the E neck, and then play an E6 chord on the C neck at the fourth fret, it sounds sweet as pie. I like this app!!

Smile

Thanks,
TJW

Heh... just found this, and it now makes total sense now (well, as much as my addled brain can comprehend)!

In any event, I really, really like this Cleartone tuner app on my iPhone. I haven't tried it with my PSG yet, though. Not sure how well that will work (or not), but can't wait to try it out!

You can find the Peterson tempered tunings online and program them in to Cleartune. Great little app.

Thanks, Bryan! Just went in and set up a custom setting for standard E9 tuning. What a cool app! Now, I just need to get one of those Peterson adapters. I have a 3.5 stereo (TRS) to female 1/4", but it doesn't seem to work. I guess there's another link in there that needs the special 3.5 tip the Peterson has?

Thanks again!

Sounds like a cool app. I use a Peterson VSII to tune my 12 string uni. I have to use three different banks to tune all the stops. Would this be possible with Cleartune?

Here's the Peterson instructions for U12

Quote:
first enter the following offsets into the programmable P-1:

P-1=
C# -5.9
D +9.9
D# -3.9
E +9.9
F -17.7
F# +5.9
G# -3.9
A +3.9
A# -2.0
B +7.9

Then enter the offsets for P-2

P-2=
A# -9.9
C -17.7
C# +7.9
D +5.9
D# -5.9
E +7.9
F -13.7
F# -1.9

(Good thing you only have to do that once )

Save them both, switch off the tuner and back on.
Go to TMPR and select P-1 as your temperament:

Tune all open strings first, then.....
Press the A pedal and tune both C sharps
Press the B pedal and tune all three A`s
Press the C pedal and tune the C sharp
Press pedal 6 and tune the D
Press left knee left and tune the C sharp
Press left knee right and tune the C sharp
Press right knee left and tune all three F`s
Press right knee right and tune the A#

Go from P-1 to P-2 (rotate the knob one click clockwise)

Press the C pedal and tune the F sharp
Press Pedal 4 and tune the C and the D sharp
Press Pedal 5 and tune both F´s
Press Pedal 6 and tune the E
Press Pedal 7 and tune the C sharp and the A sharp
Press left knee right and tune the D

Switch the tuner off and on (make sure its in Equal Temperament)
Dial in +1.9 cents
Press left knee left and tune both D sharps
Switch off tuner.

You´re done!

I believe that the Peterson offsets were derived from Jeff Newman's tunings:

That's a local URL. Got a web one?
