Topic: More mid range from cabinet |

I have a pair of closed back (4 front ports) cabinets loaded with JBL's. I do not like the extra low bass and the thin highs I get. If I cut large openings in the back would I tame the lows and highs thus sounding like more mid range because of the "wrap around" of the sound?

Hey Larry, I just had 2 12" cabs made, and I have a 12" B/W
in each. I like the sound of them. I have a 1.5" port in each
front corner. If I didn't like the sound. I was just going to cut
the back panel in 3 peices and leave the center one off.
If I didn't like the sound, I could put it back on.

| It would not affect the highs really at all, but it would affect the lows, depending on the size of the opening. It's a complex relationship but generally the larger the opening the more attenuation of the lows will be achieved and the higher the (low) frequencies will be affected, i.e. no rear baffle at all would tend to cancel the lows AND lower midrange. |

Pete, I got the speakers from Dave Kellog for a good price, knowiNg that if I did not like them I could sell them. Today I tried my other SS combo amp with them, it seemed to offer up less low end so I will give this a try. I will find the magic just might take a little time. I like BW's better than JBL's so I may have to find a matched pair soon.

Hey Larry, I finally got the chance to try my new closed back
speakers at the Southern Illinois Steel Guitar Show last week.
I used a Hilton pedal with the tone control set on off position,
because the S/S has way to much high's. I have the bass on
the S/S set at 9 o'clock. That gives a nice clean sound, and
I sure got a lot of nice comments on how good it sounded. 
If a pro was using it, it surely would've been better yet.
