I know they have an oddball pull system thats not all that easy to set up for the uninitiated.. However, what about the changer itself??.. Is it a straightforward design that could work with a more modern, more user friendly crosshaft/bell crank/pull rod system?.. Is it a double raise/ lowers\??? bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!
no gear list for me.. you don't have the time...... |

Yes it works the same. Had my ZB changed over to cross rods back in the early 70s. Tracy |

Bob,
It's basically the same changer, that's in my all pull RusLer except my RusLer has cross rods and bell cranks. It's a double raise, double lower changer. Very easy to change copedant set ups. I believe I've seen one or two ZB's that were converted, but, I can't remember where. You might want to contact Tom Bradshaw. He might have an answer or two for you. |

There is a significant difference. One is vertical fingers, the ZB is lateral. The top half IS the same. Don't even think about trying to change it to bellcrank with the original changer. The original pull rods hook into the changer with specialized bike spoke knipples. By the way, I own all the last remaining Rusler changer stock, which is what we use in the new Retro ZB's. www.retrosteelguitar.net |

Bob, if you are interested in one of the new ZB Retros with quick change bellcrank mechanics email me for photos and a price. I have a demo in red mahogony with inlaid necks that I can let go for a wow price. It has 3&5 (vertical 5th lower), and our Accutune second string posi-stop half/full tone lower plunger. Killer sounding ZB Retro. |

Kevin,
Thank you, I stand corrected! Ans yes, from the top they do look similar. I never looked at the whole changer. ZB's sure were a different mechanism.
I can only imagine, that, your new ( re-worked ) ZB's sound really great. |

The Kline uses cross shafts and the changer works the same as a ZB. Check out the photos:

I own two ZBs and a Kline. The Kline is a more precise and plays better than most guitars I've played. You can use cross shafts on a ZB but still need to use the "yoke" or "equalizer tree".
I've thought about setting up my S-10 ZB with some Kline parts. _________________ Dave Zirbel-
