Ah yes... the dreaded "tone suck" and "cabinet drop" - two issues that are a prime example of how some players make a mountain out of a mole-hill.
Funny, though, these "problems" didn't seem to hinder Buddy when he recorded "Steel Guitar Jazz" and the "Black Album", and they also didn't seem to bother Lloyd much when he did the "Live At Panther Hall" album? Not to mention, of course, all the highs that Tom Brumley didn't have when he did all those recordings with Buck Owens.
Pay no attention to the men who were in front of the curtains!

The only difference is I'd think twice about using the Ball as a hammer or wheel chock.
With the 250K pot, your TS will be different from ours. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I bought a Goodrich on ebay around a year ago. I can't tell you which model (wear and tear has worn much of the detail away) but it has the Dunlop pot which apparently is a good thing. It's fine and way better than the cheapie that I had before. I spent ages reading thru the Goodrich vs. Hilton arguments but for me, sitting in Europe, you grab what you can find!
The tone sucking arguments confused me too. It appears to be an issue for some pedal freaks but by all accounts only applies to passive pedals. All of my instruments are passive and I did a little testing with / without the Goodrich and frankly I couldn't tell the difference.
I thought to acquire a Hilton which is active but then I read about grounding issues, mysterious hums and buzzes when used with other active pedals and honestly, I already have too little time to practice let alone test gear all the time so my motto is to keep it simple.
