Herby was a master of the Pedal steel. His speed picking and awesome ideas must surely be an inspiration to the next generation. 10 pages of condolences on this Forum attest to his brilliance. I never met him, which is my loss even though I do not play the Pedal steel. My sincerest sympathy to his family.

Memories
I just came across another picture of Herby.
We were in Plant City, FL, December, 2000.
I remember I was calling chord numbers (with my fingers) to Herby as a joke, while he was playing some song.
Left to right:
John Hughey, Gary "Biscuit" Davis (Herby's son-in-law),Herby Wallace, Herby Wallace III, Bill Ferguson, Ben Brogdon & Roy Rosetta.
Oh what memories!!

First, I would like to offer my condolences to Bunny and the family. Herby was a special person. You didn’t have to be an elite player to be his friend, just strike up a conversation. As a staff player at several shows, no matter how mediocre I played, Herby would always say “thanks for pulling me through”. He inspired me to become a better player, and I was honored to be one of his many friends.

Bunny, you and your family are in our prayers. Herby was in a class by himself, We at MASGA watched and listened as he was recovering from his stroke and the effort and love he put forth in playing that steel. He will be missed.

I have known Herby since 1978 and was privileged to see and visit with him at many steel shows since. He was a master of the steel guitar and a great teacher. I learned a lot of what I know from his seminars and teaching materials. He was also one of the nicest people I have ever known. He always had time to discuss steel guitar or just music in general. His passing leaves a big void in the steel guitar community. We're going to miss him.

Bunny and Family,
We are so very sorry to hear this extremely sad news. Herby will be missed tremendously by us and all the steel guitar pickers and companies. Herby was a tremendously friendly person who made even a beginner feel comfortable with his words of encouragement. We loved to hear him play at the steel shows and always made sure we were present to hear him play. Our prayers are with you Bunny and all your family. RIP Herby.
Blessings,
Ray & Claire
