Condolences to the Wallace Family...such a great talent. I was playing from one of his courses this morning when I took a break and turned the computer on and learned of his passing. What a sad day for all musicians. RIP Herby.

It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act.

While traveling home from Orlando last night, I got this call from Jenny Davis (Herby's daughter) to please call Bunny ASAP.

When I was finally able to reach Bunny, she told me the sad news and asked that I post it on the forum.

In the mean time, I contacted Roy Rosetta and he called Bunny also to let her know that a post had already been started.

I wanted to write something last night, but my heart was just too heavy.

Herby and I first met in 1972 at his little store in Chattanooga, TN. We instantly became friends. Yep, we've had some up's and down's, but always remained close friends.

He would always come up to me after I played on a show and say "that was pretty average" hehe

In Dallas, when I introduced him on stage, the one requirement was that he not apologize on stage about his playing. That was tough for him, as he never felt really confident about his playing, since his stroke of 5 years ago.
But we all loved his playing, because it came from his soul.

I know that Jesus will enjoy his playing now and that it will be "perfect music" in heaven.

Bunny said that they would contact me later today with the arrangements. I will post them quickly unless someone beats me to it.

God bless the Wallace family.

I hated to hear this news. I played with Herbie on the Nat Stuckey Band several years ago, when the guitar player Jerry Reid took a couple of weeks off.
What a great player and person he was. He will be missed. Dave Thornhill

Just learned of this in e-mail from Bill Ferguson. Am sick at heart; Herby made me feel like a friend ever since meeting at Steel jams over 20 years ago.
May God's comfort be on the family.

Already 7 pages and no doubt many more pages of well wishers to come.Herby was just a friend of the steel guitar and anyone that loved them as most of us on this forum do. He was always ready to talk to you. I got to talk to him last fall and we were on the phone over an hour.he never got in a hurry and when he talked to you his knowledge and personality made time go quickly.. I say rest in peace to our friend Prayers go to his family in this difficult time especially on easter week end with all the events going on.

So sad to hear the news of Herby's passing.

I will always remember him coming to play at our conventions back in the '80's, one time making the trip just to be part of our event.

Our condolences go out to Bunny & the family.

Rest in peace, my friend. Very sad news. We'll pray for the family. I really had a lot of respect for and admired Herby. He always made me feel appreciated. I had planned on ordering a new G2 thru Herby later on when I had the money.
