I only met Herb one time,we talked a bit & I bought one of his CD's,damn it I hate to see this.

Rest in peace Herb, you were a great inspiration to not only me but hundreds of other people that you touched with your wonderful music. You & Bobby C. can jam it up together(maybe you can get him to slow down a little on "My Window Faces The South"),I'll always remember the brief meeting we had,one of the highlights of my life.

So sorry to hear this news. I always admired Herby and enjoyed his playing. I remember that he had a tremendous "come back" from a stroke, and it was amazing how he regained his technique and style. He was an inspiration to the steel guitar community.

I just can't believe this. I keep hoping it's a bad dream and I'll wake up.

I'm at a loss for what to write other than my sincere condolences to the family. He loved you more than anything. The steel guitar world is a much poorer place than it was this time yesterday.

Rest in Peace my friend.

Things can change so quick. Herby and I shared a few E-mails back and forth not too long ago snd everything seemed OK. This is a shock! My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and close friends.

Donna and I are too devastated with this sad, sad news. Herby and I have been friends for over 40 years and have shared many stages, many stories, and many memories together. It was always inspiring listening to him play and he will be greatly missed at the steel guitar shows around the country. Rest in peace my friend. God's blessings to Bunny and his family at this time of sorrow.

Herby was a friend to me. He told me that whenever he would drive by I-75 and passed Middletown, Ohio, he would think of me. May God bless his soul.

Herby played at a couple of the Gospel Steel Shows we had, and he did a couple seminars that were tremendous. Great steel player, and fine gentleman we will miss.

I can easily echo what so many have basically said..."great guy... wonderful musician...dedicated instructor". Herby, you were and are highly respected.

Blessings and comfort to the family.

So sad to hear of another great steel player not with us

Post by Gary Sill »

My condolences to the Wallace family. Herby always upheld the Mullen tradition and supported the guitar he played. Had great audio and written lessons to leave as his lasting legacy to the instrument.

Thanks Herby for your great sound and your long standing steel guitar accomplishments we all appreciate and are amazed at your playing.

Well I have to say that this is a shock and unexpected. I first met Herby about 30 years ago before we had ever developed a business relationship at a steel guitar show and clinic at Mac McConnell’s steel guitar shop in Colorado Springs also along with Mac McConnell and Dewitt Scott (Scotty). I had quit building guitars for a few years and it was Herby, Scotty and Mac that encouraged me to get back into building steel guitars again. Herby was a great inspiration to me, taught me many things about guitars and playing steel as well. I had one of the greatest conversation I think I ever had at the Dallas show this last March and will cherish it forever, I will miss Herby greatly This is a big loss to me and the steel guitar industry. We have lost many great players as well as friends in all of them. We never know when the Lord is going to call us to His Heavenly Home, the Bible teaches us this in Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. We can rest assured and have the comfort that God is in control but we will still miss our great friend and fellow guitar Hero.

My Prayers to Bunny and all of Herby's family.

God Bless
Del Mullen
