BJS bars

I would like anyone who hasn't tried these
bars(probably no one on the planet hasn't)to
find a store or order direct on line. You
won't be sorry. Absolutely the finest bars
in the world.I'm fortunate enough to know
Bill Stroud, who is equally as good a fellow
and player, the maker of BJS products.Thanks
Bill for your product and your help when I
have a question.

Chuck ,

I sort of got behind with the " welcome mat"
so I'll take this opportunity to welcome you to the forum . You'll love it . There are nice folks on here and some great info.

As to the BJS bars-- I have used them for years and there are none better, in my opinion ! I was given one with my birth stone in the nose by another steel player friend and that is the one I use all the time . I have a couple BJS's as spares also.

Wanted to also mention to you that I was born
and raised in Jackson , TN. . While in Lambuth College , I played steel ( 8 string Gibson lap ) with with a guy all around the Jackson area named Carl Perkins .
I'll bet you have heard of him ! I miss him a bunch . That has been Many years ago . I was called to the Army just before he cut " Blue Suade Shoes " at Sun there in Memphis. I'm retired now and pick around the East TX. area . Still enjoy it even at my age ( 69 ).

John we have a common bond.I too did some
shows with Carl Lee. What great memories I have of Mr.Carl.I now own the Bandstand,
bandstandinc.com,a combo music store in Jackson. If your ever in the area be sure to

Does Bill Stroud "custom make" any bars? I need one 13/16ths of an inch in diameter for Hawaiian playing. The very hard stocks do not come in this size. Some of the custom manufacturers say that it is difficult to hold the tolerances cutting the hard stocks down to this size diameter.

Anyone ever seen a 13/16" diameter bar? This would be perfect for my hand.

Rick, try Bullet Bars, he will make anything you want, anyway you want it. Jim is a good guy, and very perscise with a micrometer!!!

Re the BJS bars, could you list any dealers who stock them, I've heard good reports about these bars but so far haven't seen them advertized.

I've got two BJS bars and they're both great. I bought one at Scotty's convention one year and then a few months later I was at Billy Cooper's Store in Orange, Va. and decided to get another one. To my surprise I got it cheaper at Billy's than I did from the manufacturer. I wonder why that happened?

Bill Stroud story: At the TSGA Jamboree in 1995, I told Bill I really liked his product, and had played his bars for a long time. He took my bar and said "there's some plating that's chipped off the back end here." I said "yeah, so what? It's a great bar." He handed me a brand new bar and said "I don't want this bar out where people can see it. I had a problem with the plater a few years ago and this is from that batch."
I said "Bill, I happy with that one... you don't have to give me a new bar." "Yes I do," was his answer.

Good man and a good product.

Jerry, knowing Bill, it's probably because as a manufacturer, he doesn't want to undercut his dealers by selling direct to the public at a cheaper price than the merchants who carry his product. He's not a "screw your buddy" kind of guy that I can see. Dealers can discount if they want to, but they don't like it when a customer can go to the manufacturer and do an end run for less bucks.

I use a BJS 15/16" plain-nose bar exclusively. Best bar I've ever owned or used.

I just got a custom 105mm X 24mm bar from http://www.bulletbars.com/ for $25 (shipping included). I am delighted with this bar!

This price is lower than most off the shelf bars. I have seen name brand bars advertised for more than $35 each (shipping not included).

The reason why I am willing to sell my BJS bar is , I have some arthritis in that middle left finger and , it is just too heavy to handle for me. It is a great bar, gets a nice tone too.

I am using a hollowed out chrome bar , weighs 6 Ozes, very fast and lightweight. But it doesn't have the tone that the heavy BJS bar gets.
I got it from Reece about 30 years ago....al
