I don't know if it's the best way, but you can dribble some lacquer thinner at an edge to get it started, then keep dribbling a little at a time under the Formica to continue loosening the glue. Work at it a little at a time and you can remove the Formica without breaking it.

another way is to use a heat gun (hotter hair dryer)- loosens the glue- can be found in hobby stores

Jim,I have not cleaned the contact cement off of a PSG myself but ,I have been told by someone who has that they use a iron with a towel between it and the wood..

So what I am saying is you "iron "it off..I forgot to ask if you use a dry or wet towel..

As I understand it, you use the iron and towel to heat up the wood , then a scraper like a broad-knife or small trowel to remove the old contact cement..

Let me know if it works please..

Heat Gun to soften the contact cement until the formica will come loose. Then Toluol or Mineral Spirits to dissolve the now soft, "gooie" contact cement. Let either solvent set for 10 or 15 minutes to do it's job, then a putty knive and lots of rags.
