Not sure if anyone here has tried this before, but another group that I belong to did a non-proffit CD w/ material submitted by the members.
I am assuming a lot of us have home recording rigs, or at least a decent demo or live tape they can submit. Everyone who wants to be a part of it should send me a tape or CD and I will put it together at my studio. Then anyone who wants one can send $5 or (whatever cost + ship is). Since we arent selling it for proffit, covers are fine.
Let me know if you guys have any other ideas that would make this work.
I just think it would be cool to be abe to hear what some of you guys sound like w/out treking to a show! Also great for posterity sake!!!

Matt...
I like the idea and understand the concept.
But if you wanted to hear many of the SG forumites sooner there is already an on-line "compilation" effort underway- Tony Prior's "Unknown Steel Guitar Hero's" webcast:

just a thought...

Matt, do you have any idea how many "unknowns" there are here? (Hundreds, literally.) A single CD, or even a set of 5 or 6 would only hold the "tip of the iceberg".
A better idea?
Check out what's already available here on Bob's Forum...and buy them instead! Also, go see the guys who are playing near you...they need fans, too.

Matt, this is a great idea . The Steel Guitar Unknown Hero's Internet radio show has 137 tracks running from probably 40 different players with more on the way. I would say go ahead and give it a try.. whats the worst that could happen ? You may receive enough tunes for 2 or 3 CD's. I'm thinking you could have between 20 and 23 tunes on a CD if they are all in the 3 min time range. You could have a volume 1, volume 2, volume 3, an Invitational, a Best of , a retirement Cd, even a return from retirement CD! The possibilities are endless ! Give the internet radio show a listen and you will get an immediate knowledge of just how good many of these forum members are..and that is saying it lightly.

I have been thinking about doing a CD with my band and selling them at our gigs but I'm not sure they would be worth the $5 . We don't have a returns department yet !
the link to the show is on my website

Sorry, this is not factual. The appropriate permissions will still have to be secured. It'll cost a maximum of $40 (.08 x 500)per cover for tunes covered by the Harry Fox Agency, www.harryfox.com . 500 is considered the minimum distribution. You can also try to negotiate more favorable rates directly with the publisher or author.Since we arent selling it for proffit, covers are fine.
Been there...Done that.
