Well by my investigative eye I don't see the similarities of these 2 instruments. The 1st would have some serious parts missing, the 2nd has inlay on the fret board that the 1st doesn't have . But I guess it's the thought that counts. |

I vote for the one pictured at the top. Whenever an instrument is considered a "first", you'd expect it to be somewhat incomplete with lots of handmade components....possibly with a few updates along the way. Maybe some of the "Bud" experts will chime in and clarify.
If this is the guitar used on some of Porter's early records, I know it sounds great. |

Top one looks like the original #1 Bud, one pedal that had the E to A, 2 string pull. No parts missing, that's the way the first ones were built with no back apron. I would like to see the underside, Shot was a genius at rigging pedal linkage.
Edited to say..The bottom one is a later model, the first ones didn't have the endplates, they were on the inside.

Yep, sure does look tiresome, so I guess I'll stop my whining about my Pac-seat making my butt sore. Come to think of it that is why they were such good players: they were tough as nails. I guess that's why we admire them so. Wake up and smell the coffee. |
