After playing my 2008 Carter SD-10 for a few years, I've come to conclusion that I don't necessarily like it's tone ( it plays great although )....George L SS pickup on it when I purchased it...I need more "growl" without buying an Emmons. Any suggestions on what single coil pickup I should try, to get a little more of the traditional pedal steel sound from a Carter? Thanks |

Try the Alumitone. You can get them from Al Brisco at Steel Guitar Canada. I have them in my Carter D10 and they are great - single-coil clarity with zero hum. Very good separation of individual strings, too. _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being. |

IMHO, I have a D-10 Carter with Bill Lawrence XR-16s and one with the Alumitones and I prefer the BL pickups.JS |
