Have any of you Mac users upgraded to Lion 10.7

Post by Bob Martin »

I've got a MacBook Pro made in 07 and I upgraded to Lion online thru the app store. While my 2.4 core 2 duo with 4 gb of ram has plenty of horse power to run Lion I have been having a lot of weird things happening such as browser crashes OS freeze ups and just weird stuff.

On top of all of the problems I wasn't smart enough to read up on Lion and realizing all of the multi finger gestures will not work on my split older style track pad which was one of the toys I wanted to play around with.

So I'm thinking about using "time machine" and getting rid of Lion and going back to Snow Leopard. I never had a freeze or any browser problems with 10.6

Have any of you guys had any similar problems on an older MBP or any older Mac?

I upgraded two 3.06 core 2duo/4G RAM iMacs, a similar vintage (2010) MBP and a 2011 MBAir. The MBP goes screen crazy about once a day for 30 seconds. The cursor moves randomly like it has a life of its own - moves all over the screen, clicking here and there.

My iMac is exhibiting odd behavior once every other day or so - screen goes white for an instant like th computer is rebooting - but it's not. All programs re-appear and windows open for each.

The Air and my wife's iMac are completely fine. I like Lion, and am on 10.7.2, but I think it's still a bit buggy.

Thanks Gregg, if it is acting funny on your newer and faster Macs I'd say it's not acting weird on my 07 just because of age, I think they need to do some quick fixes and send us some updates :-) I'll hang in there with them for another month or so just because Apple is usually pretty good about updating their code when needed!

My wife took her MBP in to the Genius Bar today. They felt it was a software issue - ran disk utility to Verify disk and she had a slightly corrupted directory which they fixed. I checked mine - also need to run Disk Repair - invalid directory entries - I Googled it and apparently is a fairly common problem, and apparently not related directly to Lion.

UPDATE: I booted from the Snow Leopard Install disk and performed Disk Repair in the Utility menu. Will see if this solves my problem. Had a couple of errors which it repaired successfully. I read at MacRumors that hiccups in d/l'ing s/w (i.e., Lion) can cause the disk errors.

I ended up uninstalling Lion and reinstalling it and all is fine now either they have fixed it or it was a bad install from the first install of Lion :-)

I upgraded to Lion a week or two ago, no problems that I've noticed. I mostly use Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Word, Excel, FileMaker etc. I put a new HD in my MBP first, and reinstalled my stuff from Time Machine.

OS X Lion

Post by David Murdock »

I have installed OS X Lion on 4 macs and have not had any problems with the native software. However, Lion doesn't play well with my Apogee Duet Audio interface with which I do most of my recording in Logic Pro. The updated drivers are coming. There have also been problems with some Ambrosia Audio Products which interestingly enough are designed specifically for mac. Among those are Wire Tap Studio and Wire Tap Anywhere as well as Snaps Pro.

OS X Lion

It's definitely not all bad........ I record all my music with Logic Pro with really tends to eat up RAM. The 64 bit version of Logic flows very well with Lion with no crashes so far. I guess this is another plug for a virtual instrument from a computer geek. For those of you who don't play fiddle and would like a really good sampled emulation program that is capable of country fiddle sounds, I highly recommend VIR2's "Solo violin". With a little tweaking, you can really produce realistic sounding fiddle riffs with this software package. This is completely different from canned loops. If you're proficient on the keyboard and know what you want from your fiddle player, this is as good as it gets without paying him/her the union rate per hour for a session. I'm very old school when it comes to live musician's playing live, but if you do remixing or can't afford a band, this is real violin samples that you can manipulate to be your own. Unfortunately, I was not as convinced by the wavelore pedal steel software. Brought my old sho bud down from the attic for a recent CD when only the real thing would do. And the result?...... I got my muscle memory back and joined this forum!

David,
is VIR2's "Solo violin" still available?
I cannot seem to find it on their website and I did not find it in the "Violence" package.
(Sorry about the topic drift)
