| A friend of mine wants to sell me his Champ 25 amp for $300 and I don't know squat about it.He let me take it home and try it and I think like the sound better than my Roland Cube 80 XL.I would like to know the year and some opinions for pedal steel.The serial number is LO-340510.It has a 100 watts and is in very good condition.Thanks Ron |

Hi Ron, It depends on what you will use it for and where.
This amp is not 100 watts, it is rated at 25 watts output.
I bought one last year for $125. It sounds ok for a 6 string,
but for a steel it was crap, so I took it back. $300 is high.
If you search the web, You'll see them go from $80 up to $225.
I have a Fender FM 212R that is 100 watts with 2 12" speakers.
I was under $300 and sounds pretty good for steel, and is light.

| Thanks Carl for the response.I would be using it for steel in small small venues.I have used it a couple times and I like the tone.On the back of this amp it says Power Rating 100 watts,120v,60hz.Do you know what year this was made?Thanks Ron |

Ron, I think these were only made for only 2 or 3 years
in the early 90's. The 100 watts that is listed on the label
is the watts drawn from the AC power line input to amp.
The actual power output to the speaker is 25 watts.

Ron, I have one of those that I inherited from my nephew. It had a problem, and he overfused it. I looked for a couple of years for a PT. Finally I had MM make me one, got it in, and fixed the original problem. It was pretty thin with the original speaker, so I installed a G12H30 clone. Really opened the top and bottom up.
I don't use mine with the Sho-Bud, but with 6 string, or my lap I like it. Plus it's light, and it will take pedals well.(Like Carl says, they aren't worth much, I only put money in this one for sentimental reasons.) |
