Your favorite guitar and why?

My 1981 D-10 Franklin, that I got new.

I've also owned a Fender 2000 and a 1971 D-10 Emmons (Black

) and my wife has an S-10 GFI Expo, but the Franklin is my favorite.

the Swiss made Wiesner & Schild are tops in my book
the Emmons LGII & ZumSteel are next in line

what crow bear says, schild and wiesner (same company) are in a class of it`s own...

My favorite is my 93 LeGrande II for it's tone and the Emmons growl . I have had guitars that played
smoother but none have given me the sound I was
looking for until the Emmons.

Any guitar with this brand name on it.

This particular Emmons is my main guitar. It is a 1967 #1148D.

Right now it's my 84 Sho-bud Pro II 8x5 with aluminum necks. It has that special Sho-bud tone, good sustain, and plays purty smooth for an older model Sho-bud. Oh, and it's purty to.

What a great thread! Maybe someone here can tell me what kind of instrument I am playing here...it is my favorite steel(obviously, the only one I have)...

All i know is it was brought to my departed friend's house in pieces about 5 years ago before he passed, and he spent nearly two years converting it from left to right hand and getting a nice basic set of changes operational. I am learning on it, and hate to think about ever having to replace it!

I may post pics and start another thread on this one - It needs shoulder bushings and some new matching tuners, but I don't know what to buy for it....

So,this is my beauty.For the last 20 years it is with me in the house,studio,road etc.Really,when I set behind this guitar,everything is in my hands and in my world.Very sweet sound,smooth pedal action

Maybe I am just a "love the one you're with" kind of guy but my Williams U12 is my fav of the 3 steels I have owned. Bill does beautiful work on the cabinet and the undercarriage is well thought-out and the changer is a design masterpiece. Tone is a harder subject since that, like beauty, is in the eye/ear of the beholder. This is the best sounding steel I have ever played but I have never played an Emmons PP, a Zum, an MSA, a Sho-Bud, a Jackson, etc.

This is my favorite. Why? Because this set the standard that most steel guitar builders try to achieve today. I feel privileged to own and play this one. I only wish my playing did it more justice.

My Rains.. Why? Because it's got that indefinable something, that perfect tone that I hear in all my favorite steel rides and makes me want to keep getting better. Plus it plays like a dream and looks cool as hell.

Jerry Thank you. I have actually just stood and looked at this guitar. Thinking how pretty it looks...after rejeweling and installing the new fret board that I got from you.
Ron D. I hear what you are saying. If you have the guitar that inspires you to want to play,That means a whole lot. I also have 2 Zums one I bought new in 2004. I wouldn't part with either of them They sound wonderful and play so smooth. But for now my P/P gets me excited to play. A Fender Twin Reverb doesn't hurt either. I just think Buddy had it right in 1966. No offense meant to anyone who has a different favorite guitar. Dale

I have two steels.. I have owned 4 since I started...

I like the traditional vibe so they are both "sho-bud" style guitars...

My favorite of the two is a Show Pro Lloyd Green Model... it helps Lloyd is my favorite player.. but the guitar just feels good and sounds great.... and doesn't break strings ever.

plus its black... so it sounds better than my other steel that is natural.. ya know.

My favorite is my '71 Emmons D-10. I love it mainly because it's heavy and difficult to work on.

This is my only guitar, an Excel with a homemade Ash cabinet I built. Since I have disassembled every single part and reassembled it I now know this guitar inside out and have absolutely no trepidation about working on it. And, it now plays and sounds better than it ever did.

My Zum. Sounds great, plays like butter.
Only con: It's built for playing, not fer tinkerin'. With the roll-pins and combs, I have difficulty altering the copedent myself. Not a big problem, as I have an MSA to wrench on. If I find a change I want on the Zum, I can drive an hour and a half and have Bruce put it on there.

In short, I love playing the top side of my Zum.
