Robert Randolph's new Fessy
In talking with Jerry Fessenden yesterday, he mentioned that RR has ordered a new 13 string Fessy. He didn't say what color he was getting this time though!

Spend his money!!?!!......ah, hem....anyway, I repaired that purple Fessenden 3 times....at the old shop..lacquer will never live through 1 show....he has a touch like a rhino serving tea to the emperor. It may be a 'Fessy', but when he brings them in, they're 'messy'....purple or otherwise.
Great player, yes-absolutely, but tough on the instrument.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jeff Peterson on 17 April 2002 at 05:56 PM.]</p></FONT>

I don't know if Robert reads this Forum, but maybe Jeff's post prompted him to change his mind about the lacquer guitar. RR has decided to get a Formica Fessy so he can get it quicker (and maybe it will hold up better too). No word on the color yet.
Jerry has recruited Chris Templeton to set up the details and to help him with the manufacture and assembly so that Robert's new guitar won't hold up Jerry's other orders.
BTW, Jerry is basically a one-man shop. He can't afford to and doesn't give away any guitars, not to Robert, and not even to his old buddy (me), even though I showed him how to build guitars and constantly hype him on the Forum.

Jim,
Since you probably talk to Jerry more often than I do, could you remind him to take a photo of two of the RR guitar before he ships it?
They would make a nice addition to the fessy website.
cheers,

I thought I might add something to this, Jerry and I are close friends, talk everyday, church together (ya church, as in Bible, and Jesus, so all you commie, liberal atheists the Fessy is built by a God fearing man), anyway where was I, oh ya, we talk a lot about the steel and what goes into building it, this guy goes through a lot of grief, if the price goes up thank me, I tell him he doesn’t get enough considering the work into the guitar with the follow up service, if a change has to be made. He gets it right, if it isn’t already, (the 14 string there now will probably be completely changed to a new type frame, big bucks, lots of time, probably no added cost to the buyer, I’d like to get that service with anything from a car to a lawnmower, but rarely does it happen. All this means nothing if the guitar has no tone, but I think most know it sounds great (acceptable anyway

This guitar is going to be garrenteed to withstand the riggers of all the negotiations of disaster the road and heavy travel can bestow upon it. Jerry is the guy to build the guitar for this great controversial, fast pickin' terror of the strings.

Yeah, I have a Fessenden D-10 that is a terrific guitar in every way. Now, maybe I'm one of those guys that Jim M likes to call "liberal, commie, atheists" (strong words, I couldn't help but notice) but hopefully my opinion counts for something just like everyone elses'! (I'm kidding Jim, and I think you were too). I'm with you Harry - these are wonderful instruments.

The thread about Tommy White's new Carter prompted me to ask Jerry about the general policy of giving guitars to pros. He said that he can't speak for every manufacturer, but that he and John Fabian have discuseed this matter. They both have the same business philosophy and most assuredly do charge everyone for their guitars.
Yep yep that Jerry Fessenden is a great guy and Built me my fessy steel and guess what. This Guitar does not break strings.I have aset of Strings on there that have been on this great sounding Fessenden for a little over a year. I don't play out and I do practice 3 to 4 hours a day and that is a lot of playing in a little over a year.Jerry and his freind Larry Bevins are two of the greatest guys you could ever meet From Vermont.
