Jackson Blackjack - Ebay...! - Response To Brendan Mitchell

Post by Bruce Green »

Dear Brendan,

I believe I bought that steel you were after, along with a bid from Western Australia.

Just fill you in, I noticed your name bandied around the forum recently as this is
my first introduct to the forum.

For background, I purchased my first steel at the age of 11, that (46 years ago).

I purchesed my first pedal at the age of 17 (ZB) twin 10 (8 X 2)(nice guitar- nice
wood, Rosewood, maple with black ebony inserts). Still miss it a bit. This was the
1st ZB ever in Australia. Brought in by George Xanthos (Hawking Bros Fame- 1st
Country band outside of USA to be awarded by the Grand Ole Opry). I think George got
this guitar about 1969. I got it in about 1971.

In 1976 I purchased my 1st Emmons
Black Rock (Circa 1972-1974 model) 6 x 2 single 10 and I still have this guitar
todate, a very honest, reliable instrument.

3 weeks ago I just purchase a Jackson Blackjack single 10
3 x 4
This machine is brand new, been in the case for 18 months,
1 owner, purchase direct for USA, and the previous owner was a guitarist who had 1
lesson with Michelle Rose - Sydney. After that, it went under the bed.

I cannot emphasize enough, after playing pedal for 40 years
what a magnificicent instrument the blackjack is. Extremely smooth, brilliant
engineering refinment, lustre & finish, tone is brilliant and I love the response
and sustain achieved with the new Edge technolgy. Even case it is packed in, boasts
quality.

So I am currenty the proud owner of 2 of the finest instruments produced.

I would be interested to know what you are currently using.

I recall the band (The Dead Livers) from the 70's.
I was also in a 5 piece band in that period called "Country Ltd".
Were you in the band at that time, as I dont recall seeing a pedal player in the
group at that time.

Would be interested in catching up with you at some time if possible.

You can see my gig guide at my website
http://mantelentertainment.com.au/

Look forward to hearing from you...!

NB: I will post a pic of myself with by Emmons Black Rock and Jackson Blackjack soon.

Regards

Hi Bruce and Brendan,

I drove past the turnoff to Pyalong today as I travelled from Lilydale to Bendigo via Seymour.
Great to know there's a steeler out here. I won't stay online for long as I have a dodgy net conection in my hotel room.
Just for the record, I've moved from Sydney to Melbourne (Lilydale as of Saturday) and am seriously missing some steeler mates in Sydney how had a great get-together last week.
I'm looking forward to meeting Brendan in coming weeks. I play a greeen Show Pro SD10 6x6 shortened universal through a Fender Steel King. Talk later.
Stuart.

G'Day Bruce, Brendan and Stuart,

I too have been playing PS for 40yrs. Back in the 70s and 80s I played with a band called "Nevada", with my Sho-Bud D10, and remember coming across "Country LTD" some where in our travels. I have met Brendan on a couple of occations and I am currently in a band with an "old" "Dead Livers" member Mick Schack.

I am playing a '99 model Zumsteel D10.

Regards to you all,
Murray.

G'day Bruce,

Hope you don't mind if I say hi to my very good friend Stuart. We miss him here in Sydney but are very happy for him that he is following his dream. We should all be doing that as life is too short not to. Stuart, great to see you have found some "steelies" down your way!

Bruce if you are ever up our way be sure to let us know so we can get together and check out who is playing steel. You might get to one of our "Chew the Fat" steel sessions one day? You would be very welcome. (don't know if you have seen the photos of our last meeting in "Steel Players". 11th March. I think it is on page one/two ??? )

G'Day Bruce, (and fellow aus steelers)Cannot believe I have missed this thread. Welcome to the forum Bruce. I have been a fan of your's for some years now since receiving all your instrumental CD's direct from you. I can recommend them to other steelers as there are some classic songs played with feeling. Cannot wait to see the Jackson! We would love to see you at the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club Festival coming up in June. If not this year maybe another?

Gedday Jeff,

Nice to hear from you and very pleased you enjoy my albums. I absolutely love the Blackjack although I still have feelings for my 6x2 Emmons Black Rock ( which I am about to refurbish) since I have the new guitar.

I would like to get up to the Brisbane Convention although I am very busy with my new duo arrangment with "MANTEL".
My gig guide is at our site
www.mantelentertainment.com.au

I plan a tour in the not too distant future to Qld
so I will certainly look you up when I am in the area.

I also expect to bring out a compilation album with my business partner "Jimmy Johnson" in the next 2-3 months which will have approx 12 vocal and 12 pedal steel tracks and I am really looking forward to it
since my last album was released about 2004.

Happy Steelin Jeff and look foward to catching up one day.

Regards
Bruce.

Hi Paddy...
Nice to hear from you. Are there many pro/semi pro players in NZ ?
I was over there a few years ago and keen to get back.
Hopefully I can in the next year or so with my current band. I would probably have to line up a
few " Country Music Clubs " on the north & south islands to do so. I dont suppose there is a list available ?
Happy Steelin... Bruce
