Anyone using new Apogee Duet 2?

Post by John McClung »

Supposed to be even better than the original Duet (2-channel DAW).

Anyone using it, have informed opinions about it?

Oh, and it should work now with Pro Tools 9 or 10, anyone tried that yet? I'm still debating going with PT or Logic Pro. Apple's pricing is now way less than these frequent and very expensive upgrades for each new version of Pro Tools. Thoughts on that?

Thanks.

Well, after reading reviews and talking to Apogee reps at the recent LA NAMM show, I bought one. Still in the box, need to tidy up my desk, figure where to put my Yamaha HM80S monitors, but I'm closer to getting into this recording challenge!

I'll let you know how the Duet II performs.

John, I look forward to your thoughts on using the duet. I've been wanting one for a while. I've been using logic since I got the macbook pro. my PT 8.4 is not compatible with lion, but i'm getting along just fine with logic. Logic pro comes with some great instrument sounds & mastering tools etc. I find PT sound samples are geared towards dance music.Of course everyone has they're own preferences & i've got both but prefer Logic.

Bruce, when I explained to an Apogee rep at the January NAMM show that for now all I need to do is bring in a client's track, then overdub steel parts, he recommended ProTools for that. Said Logic is great for composing film music and the like, but for simple laying down tracks, PT was an easier way to work.

So my plan is to do some practice in Garage Band, then move up to PT 10.

It's nice that PT is now unbundled from Digi hardware.

I use the first version of the Apogee Duet, and it works seamlessly with both Logic and Pro Tools 9.

I have the original Duet with a MacBook Pro, running Logic Studio. I also use several other guitar processors, but I think the major difference in the new Duet is the break-out cable has been improved. I love Logic, and I think its sounds better than Pro Tools projects friends use.
