Last night was another great psg gathering thanks to all who attended. The next meeting will be on March 6 at 7 pm. everyone please try to attend.

Here is a photo of a great old national amplifier left here for repair last night by Dave Evans. I'm secretly hoping that he forgets about it and decides just to leave it here. :)

Right now Wednesday night is better for me. Half of the week I work nights at Intel, and the other half I fill up with solo gigs and playing at Church.

Sounds crazy, but I really love my schedule.
Thanks

The Social Intercourse invovled here is unmatched!

Post by Ray Montee »

Chris, I truly consider your sincere enthusiasm a crucial element in the success of Bob's gracious project. Likewise, your suggestions and ideas are equally as important. The sharing of different things amongst the participants is heartening, to say the least.

I'm with you....... I'd much rather see these events used to expand one's mind and musical experiences rather than merely as a circle jerk of playing the same tunes over and over, week after week.

Keep those ideas and suggestions coming........

BRING A FRIEND.........

Haha! too funny...Well, so many tunes, so little time. I'll have to give it some more thought.

Although, I think "Crazy" is a good one to play next time...

Our next gathering will be Tuesday, March 20 at 7 PM, first day of spring, that's beginning a whole new season of playing. At this session Ray has volunteered to lead us in a lesson on guitar tuning, this should be a very interesting discussion. So everyone bring your "pitch pipe" so we can join in and tune the guitars together. I would also like to have discussion on which songs we should be working on, we don't want anyone dozing in the back while were playing songs. So think of some fresh ideas, and bring them with you so that we can keep it exciting for everyone. I do have a printout of some 5,000 song tracks that we have available, there is also an index in the band in a box software so look this over and see if we can come up with some fresh ideas. Hope to see everyone next time.

Hi Guys,
Hey I met a Ukulele player named Jeannie Ceciliani (a middle aged women, very nice).
She says that her Mom (now 91) used to hear Ray Montee here in Portland back in the good old days.
When I mentioned Rays name, she was like... "Oh, He's Famous".
I can't remember but I think she said Ray played at the Division Street Coral???...(I may have the name wrong).
Anyway... I recall someone asking about a Uke player.
I played I Fall to Pieces with her and she is pretty good.
I think she would come to a Steel night if you guys are up for some Uke backing up the Steel.

How 'bout that!

Post by Ray Montee »

Pete: Once again you come thro' with a great idea.

I'm sure this young lady would be most cordially welcome to participat in the group. LIVE musicians are always preferred over BIAB........ It is an informal gathering of steel guitar advocates.

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to pass along our invitation.

An idea for next session, March 20th

Post by Chris Gabriel »

That would be neat to have a ukulele player join us. I'll bring my guitar, too. Maybe Matt could bring his bass. That would be nice to have live instrument accompaniment. We could split it up a little, using BIAB some songs too.

Hey! I just spoke with Bob, and we came up with an actual agenda.

I.first, we listen to Ray talk about tuning. (Bring a tuner, or a pitch pipe.)

II.second we'll talk about chord progressions for the songs so that we can play with instrumental accompaniment. Bob has a nice way of displaying the chords so we can all read along.

III.Lastly, we'll play through the tunes, new and familiar.

And, lets follow up with a discussion for the next agenda.

Which brings into question, which songs should we play next session? I'll go ahead and call a few:
Crazy
Wild Mountain Thyme

Please, add to this list folks. Bob, and the rest of us are excited to keep the steel guitar momentum moving forward,
Chris

Time to get ready for the jam/gathering this coming Tuesday, March 20. We may have a guest player for this one, and we have other folks who can play other instruments also, maybe we'll make our own band. See everyone Tuesday.

Chris, the get-together was great, we had new faces a couple of new guest singers and a good time was had by all. We had about 10 people, sorry I forgot to do photos, but everything went well. The next get-together should be April 3, hope to see everyone again at that time. The following get-together we hope to have a discussion about band in the box, and how it operates. Please think of any specific questions you may have and let me know ahead of time so we have time research the answers. Larry Behm should be assisting with this endeavor, so any information or questions you can think of before hand be very beneficial to the cause. This presentation should be on April 17.
