Here's my problem: In order for me to get the correct tuning on 3rd and 6th strings while open and while depressed, I have to loosen the hex nut really far on the 6th string because it wants raise much much faster than the 3rd string. So the result is as I depress the B pedal the 3rd string raises smoothly while the 6th string doesn't raise until the very last second.
The only thing I can think of is changing the strings. Both strings are NOT wound. I can't see any reason though, why the gauge or the type of string would make a difference as this is not an issue with the A pedal strings (5 and 10).

What type of PSG?
3d string is always plain ... a .011 or .0115, or a .012 in extreme cases.
6th string can be plain or wound - depends mostly on tonal and stability preferences. .020 or .022 are normal. Wound 6th will need longer travel than the plain version, so maybe your PSG needs a plain 6th string.
Sounds like the pull-rod for 6th string is hooked up much too far out on its bellcrank, giving too long a travel. It is then a question of balancing travel-length for 6th string pull-rod with that of the 3d ... hooking the pull-rod up closer to the bellcrank-axle will reduce travel-length. |

Which type of ProI? There were a few. If it has 2 hole pullers, then it pretty much is what it is, since the 3rd string needs to travel more than the 6th, so the 6th will start moving later.
If it's a late model Bud, moving the rod to a different hole on the puller may help. |

Switching to a wound 6th will make it need more travel, so they'd travel more closely together _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Sounds like the position of the rods on the bellcranks is causing the problem. Try changing a rod position so they both pull fairly uniformly together.

What Lane said. Try a wound .022 on the 6th. If you lower it a full tone you might not be able to with the wound string, but it will make the pulls a lot closer. You may also find that you like the tone of the wound string better, I do. As for 5&10, the core of the 10th is a lot closer to the size of the 5th string. A plain .022 is huge for a plain string and almost double the size what the 3rd would be. Remember, it's the core of the string that determines the tension.. the winding is basically along for the ride. |

Thanks for all of the suggestions. The 6th string rod is as close to the bellcrank as I can get it. I'm waiting on a new set of strings right now so that I can try a wound .022 on the 6th. I will report the result. |

A plain 6th will just not travel with the 3rd....I just today adjusted the 6th on my Rains so that it is in the closest hole in the bell crank and furthest at the changer, going as slow as it can now, it still travels a LOT faster than the 3rd, only takes a very short throw to move it the half step....I don't really want to make the 3rd go a lot faster, so I guess I'll just live with it... _________________ https://www.lostsailorspdx.com
