That doesn't look to me like Jimmy Crawford in the first clip, or even Howard White. Notice in the second clip, isn't that Kayton Roberts playing the rhythm guitar behind Hank?

That's Gerald Merhar. He's my neighbor and a good friend. I showed that video to him one night and he said yep that's me.

I tho't for sure Hank turned and introduced the steel man as "Jimmy Crawford"? Could I be wrong?

Of course, that's JERRY BYRD seated directly behind Hank, in the house band. Possibly playing his Sho-Bud?

In the video of Hank singing, A Fool Such As I, That is Gerald Merhar. He also played steel for Loretta Lynn in the early 60's, was with Faron Young for less than a year and also played for Charlie Louvin.

In the first clip, the steel player is Jerry Merhar, Chubby Wise on fiddle, and Johnny Johnston on rhythm guitar.

Crawford is in the 2nd clip. I didn't know a human little finger could do a reverse bend like that.

In this one, the steel player is Howard White.

Also Howard is in this one.

Forgive the digression, but what's up with Hank waiting an extra beat before fingering the guitar chords? Bizarre.

Looks like he was waiting for the fiddle player to set the timing.

A funny story about Hank. He would always introduce the song and then say "Chubby". One night on the Opry, he went into a long spiel introducing his new fiddle player Buddy Spicher, about where he was from and what a wonderful player he was. He then said "And now, here's one of our Raah Cee A Victah records, Chubby?"

When I first read "Gerald Merhar. . . was with Faron Young for less than a year," I thought, Faron didn't have a steel player with that name. Then I realized, oh, you mean JERRY Merhar! I hope he's doing well. Bobby, please tell him hello from me. He came to one of my Country Deputy reunions.

Diane, Jerry sends his best. Said to tell you that he has a picture of you, your niece, your sister and some members of Faron's Band along with him.He is doing well but doesn't own a computer or he could tell you this himself. Said he hopes you are doing well. Bobby
