Emmons legs

Post by Mike Randolph »

Got a new project. Anyone cut the legs on a Emmons Lagrande to shorten and so what is the thread size on the nut end? Mike

Hi Mike, never cut the threaded end off. Go to a good machine shop,
and let them do it for you. They'll knock out the threaded blocks,
and then cut the legs off in a lathe and then reinstall the blocks.
They can also cut and rethread the pedal rods at the same time.
I had this done on all my Emmons steels and they were perfect.
It only cost me $35 every time I had to have a set done. :D :D :D

Make sure they can roll threads. Pedal rods have rolled threads, not die cut threads. Rolled threads are more durable and since rolling threads pushes material to raise threads a bit. Die cut threads cut into material and leave sharp, weak apexes on top of the threads. Rolled threads are more durable in a rod bag where rods bump into each other and make for a less wobbly fit between the pedal rod ends and the pedal rods.
So, if you are having a machine shop lathe cut the threaded insert off, you should ask them to fire up their thread roller as well.

I just shortened my Emmons Legrande II

Did it all myself... Knocked out two threaded portion of the front legs. Cut the back legs with a pipe cutter. Theaded the pedal rods with a die. Cut them with a dremel. Works good. If you want pics, holla...
