My Carter D-10 has a pickup/wiring problem. I lose volume either partially or totally after playing for a while. The wire seem loose to me under the guitar on the little "bridge" where everything connects before going to the output jack. When I start to lose volume, I can reach under the guitar, poke that area with a finger and I'm ok for a little while.

I also hear some static and/or growly sound from my Nashville 1000. I don't think it's the amp but I haven't plugged anything other than my steel into it. I'll try that in a little while and see if there's any difference between instruments.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions? I don't really want to take all those pullrods out to solder but I suppose I'm going to have to do it, right?

Try taking pictures? I'd sooner suspect the amp, but wires sometimes break at the solder joint or joints fail.
If a Carter is like almost every other guitar, that "bridge" is the stop bar for your lowering fingers, which means removal is time-consuming, as you have to remove 20 return springs.
You MIGHT have enough slack wire to pull the jack out from under and repair it, but
Occam's Razor suggests the fault lies elsewhere as that's *usually* a trouble-free area.

Gary, it is probably not the guitar. Most likely a cord or vp pot. I have had both. If you have GL cables, try tightening the screws on the cable. I have this happen often. Dale

Gary,,if you don't find a problem after checking out your amp, cords, and jack,,check your neck selector switch..These switches can go bad on a Carter,,and need to be replaced..It can be replaced by removing the pick-up, disconnect the old switch from the neck, and pull it out..You will need to fish the new switch back in with a wire from the switch hole..
The only other way is to remove the fret-board,,which you will probably have to replace as well..If the switch is bad,,you should be able to get a replacement at any good electronics store...If you have to do this,,it might be wise to check your pick-up height first, and record your measurements..Hopefully this isn't the problem...Regards,,,Carson
