Just dissassembled my E9th mechanism on my Emmons Legrande II. Its about 20yrs. old... I noticed minor damage on one side of the cross rod, such as grooving or galling. I have always used AMSOIL to keep my mechanism lubed after cleaning with Liquid Wrench. I will try to clean it up with scotchbright and Liquid Wrench. Hopefully I can reuse it. Also, I noticed one of the bushings which goes between the fingers was drilled off-center. I think it will be ok though.

Thoughts???

Turn the changer shaft 1/2 way around. Gives a fresh surface, good for another 20 years. Smile

Use fine steel wool (if you must) but absolutely NO Scotchbrite!!!

However, the suggestion to simply rotate the shaft 180 degrees is a good one, since all the string tension is applied to only one side of the shaft.

Interesting comment on the AMSOIL Wayne. I use it in all of my farm and landscaping equipment...never thought about lubing my pedal steel with it. I'm real impressed with its lubrication qualities in engines and transmissions.

You mean like this

600 grit wet/dry sandpaper, A little elbow grease, and then polished with semichrome.

When it's that bad, I don't think rotating the axle would help much. This axle was from the E9 changer. The C6 axle looked brand new!
