GFI Keyless Head

Post by Bobby Lee »

Looking back to my memory of Dallas, I realize that the GFI keyless head looked different from what I thought it was. I seem to remember that the GFI was designed in a way that didn't require a roller nut.

I think I saw keyless GFI's with roller nuts in Dallas? Was I hallucinating? Or was my previous impression mistaken?

Hi b0b, I had a GFI keyless that had no roller nuts. I liked the design Gene had & thought it was better in some ways.....no
wrench needed! I have an old Zum with modified BELA tuners from 10 years or so ago.
Not everyone had good results with them, but I have (and improved with the modifcations a
machinist came up with for me. There is no open string on either end. Much like Zane's
BMI keyless design....no exposed string beyond the "bridge" or the "nut" !

b0b- The GFI keyless I had did have the straight bar, no roller nuts. At first I didn't like it, but after awhile thought it was a good idea. No Buzz with different gauged strings. His guitar is pretty well engineered...al Image

b0b, there must have been something in your buttermilk biscuits and white gravy, because the GFI nuts were solid, not roller.

And you better believe that this NY boy got down on those biscuits & gravy! One belt notch worth... Image

It was my great pleasure to meet you b0b.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by HowardR on 26 March 2002 at 09:39 PM.]</p></FONT>

My mistake, I guess. I thought I saw a different keyless head this time, with a bit of string length after the nut. The mind plays tricks...
