Here's one I've been wanting to play, so tonight I did. I recorded in the way I've been doing recently with the Boss Looper, laying down a bass line, then rhythm guitar, all on the Clinesmith (I hope Todd doesn't get offended by this one), then the melody and self-indulgent stuff. This gets a little closer to the ARP sound I want. I didn't use any synths in this, just the Boss Slow Gear and Auto-Wah in my Boss VF-1.
I know I'm getting a little annoying with this, but I'm just having fun. Wish you were here to jam with. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Mike, you are NOT getting annoying with these great, innovative posts. I, for one, look forward to them. It is posts like these where you demonstrate fresh approaches, using effects and techniques that may seem "non-traditional", that keeps the music and the instrument alive. Please keep them coming. |

Mike
How did you get that effect at around 1:53 - 1:55.? I can do it on a regular guitar but that is the first time I have seen it on a lap.
Great stuff by the way, you are really making me think about a looper!
Thanks! |

Hal, I would encourage anyone to get a looper. It is a great way to practice and really develop your playing on several levels. If you play guitar or keys, you can loop a little chord sequence; however, I prefer to just use my steel for that.
The part you're referring to is simply hammering on and pulling off, just like on guitar, but using the bar. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Thanks Mike, that is what I thought.. but in the video, it kind of looked like your ring finger was getting involved somehow... |

Thanks, Dan. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm OK with that. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Great playing, Mike, and with killer tone & sustain. Loved the camera angle also.
Keep on indulging your bad self!

Sounds great. Wondering if there's a way to remove some of that pick attack. It robs you of what otherwise is a very smooth tone. Could be due to them being metal picks? |

That's not pick attack, but, rather, the way I have set the sensitivity on the Slow Gear to give a key click effect. I did it intentionally, because I like the way Jan Hammer gets that little bit of click on his Minimoog, although it does get exaggerated a bit because the signal is direct in the recorder. I ran one line from the volume pedal into an amp and the other directly into a recorder, which is what was used in the video. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links

Damn Mike, that is awesome. I heard some Lowell George in their too. Great sound and great playing. I really liked the overhead camera angle.
I kind of like Motown-type tunes and hearing what you did makes me think the steel could definitely be used on those type tunes. |
