Raymond ... looks like spring ... my wife bought me a shed (albeit a nice one) and had me move all my stuff out of the basement ... and it's cold in there
But I did get to put up a 4 track HO slot car set down there ...
Anyway ... I got the wound (flats) 0.024 and 0.022 ... and dropped to an 0.016 E and an 0.017 C ... and it sounds down-right wicked-awesome ...
Weird ... ... after 20+ years of using plains there ... must be inharmonicity being detected by the ultra-sensitive broad spectrum unit.
Anyway ...
I'll shut up and let y'all be the judge ... the girls are very excited about their video ...
I can't play anymore ... but I can strum ... and that's all it'll take

coil surround p/u
great work - that's just awesome! i love any sort of
innovation and i'm convinced that there are probably
many good ideas and principals to play with and refine that may have been simply left behind by
the rush of modern day thirst for the latest/greatest.
i do have a question about the paint -- do you DIY
or farm it out ? i'm asking because i've considered
using powder coating on some of the parts on my
steel builds as opposed to POOOOLISHING the aluminum
-- takes forever!
nice work! pastor bruce

The6joes Cinematic Group brings you:
Coil Wars
All Steels' volumes are on full* ...
Tones (excluding A25) start Full On ... then are rolled back a tad ... then set ala JB (each change mumbled by me).
70's Fender Twin:
Master Volume = 10
Channel Volume = 3
Treble = 3
Mid = 1
Bass = 10
Reverb = off
* I did have to roll back the "Boobs" volume control a tad ... it was shaking the walls abit too much
Hand knocks to show "vibraphonics' of each unit
Recorded & Uploaded in HD ... they say you get a higher audio quality that way ...
Title sequence audio: Courtesy of Jerry Byrd
This is our best effort .. hope it does the job

Great Video and Family
You definitely have a winner there in your dual coil PickUp.
Cool 1st Video, although you want to invest into a TriPod.

Seems my camera girl had too much Hot Cocoa
Bruce, I do the powder coating here ... My favorites are Hi Gloss Black, Black Wrinkle, Midnight Blue Wrinkle and Hi Gloss Clear ...
Hot flocking works well on the wrinkle powders ...
Fun to do too ...

There are 6 Arrays ... Forming the Magnetic cylinder.
I've started the unit for the 25.5" neck ... It will have less turns per coil.
That should "tame it" down to a more "user friendly" version.
I'm extremely happy with it ... though !
As good a job as my girls did ... There's a level of " feeling" ... An "aliveness" that wasn't easily recognized by listening to a recording.
Once you hear it live ... It's much easier to identify it in a recording like that ...
Thanks for the kind words ...

I know what you mean, good pickups can have an alive almost 3D spacial feeling to them. While its hard to record, I could hear a bit more of a "presence" with the new pup. Looking forward to seeing how round 2 with the tamer version pans out ... pun intendedRick Aiello wrote:... As good a job as my girls did ... There's a level of " feeling" ... I read some papers on magnetic refrigeration ... ..
Broke it all down ... Added 34 more pieces ...
Kept the same coils ...
Put on my standard 0.017 E , 0.018 C, 0.020 plain A and 0.022 plain G ... Having to change strings like that really bugged me
Freakin' Perfect ...
Done ... Ready for Prime Time
I did scratch up the wrinkle ... So I'm going to make a new top ... When I make the other necks unit ...
Maybe High Gloss Black to bring some shine to the "Boob" ...
Probably have the girls make another video ... And get them an iPad tripod

PS : To be extremely technical ...
This "refined" unit utilizes a series of magnetic circuits that are more closely related to Stelter Arrays* than cylindrical Halbach arrays ...
And since soft magnet material is now intertwined in the coils ... They are technically no longer air coils ...
Now I feel better ...
* No patents nor Trademarks were infringed upon ...

Today was four-conductor lead wire switching day ...
I did this during my initial testing ... But not since reworking the arrays ...
Standard Series Humbucking ... As reported ...
Coil splitting (shorting out one coil) ... As expected ... Same sound regardless if it was the "over" or "under" coil on ...
Parallel ... As expected ... This unit is very bright already, don't foresee this config being too useful to folks.
When I changed the starts & finishes around ... ... In the Immortal words of Gomer Pyle ...
Same hum as the coil split ... But unlike a regular humbucker put out of phase (thin, low output, etc) ...Surprise ... Surprise ...Surprise
It got much bigger, louder .... Huge tone ...
The joy of having "over and under coils" ... I guess
On the "Boob" ... I'll use this config ... The hum isn't an issue for me ...
But I'll recommend this switch to folks ... Humbucking for places with bad wiring, flourescent lights, etc. .... And this "A$$ Kicking " config when you want to sound "bigger than life"...
Sure has been an exciting few weeks for me ... Albeit a tad tiring ....
Mahalo for listening to all my ramblings ...

Rick, I borrowed a tin foil beanie from one of the "crew" down the street before I listened to your video. Just wanted to be protected from any stray rays...
Loved the tone you are putting together and hope it will be available in a 6 string size as I'm putting together a new mahogeny D6 console as my srping/summer project. Was gonna use the Lollar Supro pups but might have to rethink that. By the way - love your wall art.

You should see the other wall ...
Tin hat ... ... Try Permalloy next time
Anyway ...
The terminology is bugging me now ... The phrase "out of phase" .... Which is used in traditional humbucker wiring ... Implys destructive interference.
With this "over and under" coil configuration ... Where both coils are reading the exact same length of string ... it seems new territory is being explored
The Reverse Wound Coils .... Produce true hum canceling but less constructive interference.
The Same Direction Coils .... Produce greater constructive interference but no hum cancelling.
In the immortal words of Arte Johnson ...

I'm so confident now ... I spent some serious $$$$ ... Credit card is smokin' ...
I bought a 14.5 lb spool of 38 AWG (to go with the 8 lbs I have here ) ... Enough neodymium to pull down the space station ... All kinds of hardwear .... Stock metals ... Etc. etc.
I sold my '79 CJ7 w/ V8 to fund this "tooling up" ....
I used Hi Gloss black powder as previously discussed on the "Boobs" new redo's ... Looks cool against the black wrinkle body and polished aluminum necks.
So I'll be offering them in ... Black Wrinkle ... Hi Gloss Black .... & ... Brushed Aluminum with Hi Gloss Clear Coating ...
No plating this go round ...
Once I get Andre N.'s preplacement done for my old "Black Mamba" (25.5" cast steel Dustpan) ... I'll be ready to start making them for other folks.)
I'll make an announcement and place it in the right forum ... With ordering info, pricing, switching options, etc.
I'm more than ecstatic with this unit ...
Mahalo for the support ...
