Hi Frank - That was a fun band and I learned a lot. Suzanne Vorges is the vocalist, John Workman - directly behind me - guitar and vocals, Paul Tapkin in the Middle with the sunglasses - drums. That's Paul Mozen, the steel player. He's a doctor in Florida now. I'm sure you remember him. He used to go to your parents store quite a bit. Chuck Smith is the bass player to my left. He and I and his girlfriend drove his International step van to Corvalis, Oregon and that was the last I sawof him. We had some big adventures on that trip.

I wonder if any of those folks are still around Muskegon.

That's steel guitar great Bert Rivera to my left. vocalist Janie Quisenberry, drummer Eddie Farris, bassman Bob Poole, and Richard Wesley on guitar.

I still play in bands with Bert and Bob.

Interesting thing about this picture, which was taken in the front room of the Broken Spoke in the mid-80's, is that behind and above Eddie's hat is a picture of Hank Thompson's Brazos Valley Boys and Bert is in that picture too.

Highway Brothers, a Stockholm, Swedish country music band. Consists of 6 elderly men, who backed US country music singer Stan Martin at Ydre Country music festival, in the south of Sweden, this summer. You find me right on the left edge in yellow hat.

fun thread!

Post by Scott Hay »

Man, what a fun thread! How the hell do you follow a poker playing Racoon and a bear skin drum pad? Nice Colm!

Here's some of "the Portland Country Underground". First as scumbags on Halloween.

Left to Right: David Lipkind, Morgan Geer, Darrin Craig, Matt Cadenelli, WC Beck, Lewi Longmire, and yours truly.

The same band doubles as "WC Beck and the Valiant Swains". I love this photo our pal John took. Friends and band mates Lewi Longmire on guitar, Matt Cadenelli on drums at Secret Society Ballroom here in Portland. Caleb Klauder band played, it was a great night.

Folk Band--Here, There and Everywhere.

Post by Jan Viljoen »

Last year in May, I was asked to join a folk instrumental band for a competition at The Voortrekkermonument (Pioneer/scout monument). This building is almost a holy shrine in Afrikaner culture.

I show a picture here of the Monument inaugurated in 1949, as well.
Here, There and Everywhere came third in the adult acoustical section. 30 bands competed in all sections.

Forgive us for not smiling, this is serious business.
Some of the rules are to play the songs exactly as the original masters did, even the same key and tempo.
The judges are so sharp, they can detect a wrong key immediately just by listening to the lowest notes of the concertina or by looking at the guitar cords.
Further, no drums or electric instruments in the acoustical section and no 7th cords.

We had a concertina, acoustic bass guitar as well as a reed organ, with me on my handmade F5 mandolin.
Secret, the western belt I am wearing is more than 30 years old, and for those who know I play a perfect G Bluegrass cord, ala Bill Monroe ;-)

Don't wanna scare anybody,,, but...I'm the "mysterious one." Played my old Crossover Custom, and my '58 Flying V in Methyl Ethyl and The Ketones, circa 1971. And the cutie is well-known actress Amy Madigan!

No steel sadly - me in my Celtic days with "The Streels", Irish/Scottish/Newfoundland music. I'm the one looking serious with the cittern (10-string octave mandolin) second from right.
