The vintage chrome ring ones are around 18-20K +- on a VOM.

You have got my curiosity going Sonny...
Are you about to make a change?

They are my all time favorite favorite humbucker pickup. I have had some trouble with one of the "new" non chrome cornered type.

I hope you love it as much as I do. I have them in my Sho~Bud Professional and would not dream of using anything else in it.

The one "new" 705 I had worked ok a while then one "side" or coil became open. It sounded pretty good when it worked. I still think the original chrome ringed ones were better.

I have 2 of the chrome surround 705's in my MCI guitar, and they sound just wonderful. That's why I have no qualms about putting the older 705's in my Zum too.

I have had lengthy discussions about the 705 pickup with Bobbe Seymour over the years. They have long been the installed pickups in his personal Emmons push pull that he has used on countless sessions and broadcasts, and are his preferred pickup over anything else.

Have just put one in my Bennett SD10,sounds so rich, compared with the Tru-Tone that was in it. The TT just didn't suit the guitar. This 705 is a chrome one been laying about in a box brand new never used but at least five years old. Very impressed with the tone.

My 705's are quite old. My mate Ron Mawn bought them from DeWitt Scott many years back, but they have been unused. I bought them from Ron. They have each come with mounting plates, both wide and narrow so all avenues are covered.

Incidentally, when I saw Paul Franklin playing in Nashville last April, I noticed that his guitar had the chrome 705's on both necks.

How do the new 705's compare with the older 705's? For you all that have the newer ones, how do you like them?

I think the new ones sound pretty close. The one I had cashed in way too soon though. Hopefully they are not all that way. I think we would hear more complaining if they did go out often.

I can't put into words how well I like them. Never tried one in a P/P Emmons. Never saw the need to. Bobbe may really be on to something.....

I put a BL705 (the new one) in my '95 Derby.
It has a dreamsound now. I was already happy with the George L66 in it, but this new one beats it.
In the studio I got more separated low notes, warmer mid and mellower high tones, and in overdrivemode on a Marshall it growls like the Dave Lindley lapsteel. Yes I'm a satisfied happy camper now :)

I have a pair of the old one's in my Fessenden. I tried a few different ones in order to get the right match I was after, including a new one.

What I found was that the originals(chrome housing) that didn't have the extra two coil tap wires sounded best. I guess mine are probably 605's since they're in the 16.5-17.5 range. One of these days I'll have to try them in my Emmons.
