Hey everyone, I had a chance to talk to Bobby Black at the Western Swing Soceity Hall of Fame, annual event in Sacramento. I gave him the date of the Jam, and he said he was really going to try to make it this year, most likely later in the afternoon!
YES!
BTW, he played his 10 string Super Slide and Rocked the house, of course.

If I come (very likely) I'll bring my new Millennium. It will be the first time I will play the guitar in front of anybody.

Billy Easton just emailed me today to say the Mesa, AZ, jam has been resecheduled for November 11th. So any steelers who wanted to attend both the Mesa jam and San Jose jam now can!

I just found out this weekend that I probably have a gig on Saturday afternoon November 4th, and may not be able to attend the steel jam.
I thought our lead singer/band leader was going to be out-of-town at that time, but his plans changed.
I hope my possible change of plans won't effect Tom Bradshaw's being able to make it.
I'll let you know either way, once my plans become definite.
Thanks,
Marc
[This message was edited by Marc Friedland on 08 October 2006 at 02:03 PM.]

Mike Perlowin: sorry, I can't join the carpool, I'm attending MacFair at Cerritos college that day. You LA boys have fun and don't show off too much!
Maybe next year, Northern steelers. Sounds like fun.

I'm planning to be there. I'll bring a couple of new Webbs (if there is still room to even get them inside the building!). These will be the one-piece units that have isolated speakers in chambers with adjustable ports (front and back). They will create a yawn, a gasp, total disinterest, or amazement...I'm not sure.

Here's the current list of expected participants, in no particular order (my apologies to anybody whose name I may have missed):
David Phillips, Henry Brooks & friend (observers), John O'Neill, Bobby Lee, Larry Chung, Dave Zirbel, Billy Wilson, Peggy Green, Mike Perlowin, Jeff Hanson, Frank Carter, John McConnell (possibly), Barry Blackwood (possibly), David Wren, Raybob Bowman, Jim Baron, JD Maness (possibly), Joe Buczek, Edward Efira, Charlie Wallace, Todd Gorman, Steve French, Richard Sinkler, Brad Bechtel (possibly), Marc Friedland (possibly), Al Vescovo, Jim Ives, Bob Snelgrove, James Chu, Jonathan Mitguard, Bobby Black, Patrick Ickes, Tom Bradshaw, Tom Cooper.
Thats 35 people (with a few tentatives), and almost all are players.
Holy smoke, Batman.
I haven't had to do this before, but I think we will need to spell people this time, perhaps limiting folks to a few hours (3?) in the players' circle, then set out to let others join in. (Don't leave....stay and socialize!) I sure don't want anybody to go away feeling they didn't get an adequate chance to play, or they didn't get enough of their favorite attendee's playing, but clearly some flexibility will be needed. There will be some "winging it" to allow everybody to fit at one time or another. Also, given the size of the group, each individual may find themselves with a bit less playing time (but more schmoozing time) than at prior jams. We'll all also need to accommodate those who can only come at certain times and/or only stay for a certain period (for example, Bobby Black plans to come early and leave early).
Gads, this is almost turning into a convention. This is going to be interesting! And fun.

I plan on bringing my new '65 reissue Fender Twin Custom 15 amp, and gladly will offer this to anyone who wants to use it when I'm not playing, so maybe this can help out on equipment space. I also plan on arriving early, and staying late
..... and I am more interested in meeting all you players than picking (I've already heard myself ), so no problem there.
Sounds like a real blast!

Bill, it sounds like your jam is having the same problem mine had. So many people attending that not everybody gets a chance to play. And as the word of these events spreads, more people will want to come and it's only going to get worse.
So starting next year, I'm making the L.A. jam a 2 day event. Certain key players and people coming in from out of town will be invited to play both days, and the locals will have to sigh up in advance for one of them. 10 sign ups per day. Between 15 and 20 players per day, maximum.
It is of course too late for you to change things this year, but perhaps you might consider doing the same thing next time.
