Circa 1954 Gibson Console Grande Double 8

Post by Steve Mueller »

Circa 1954 Gibson Console Grande steel, double 8 string, the model Don Helms made famous playing with Hank Williams. Case is also a Gibson but not the original case, it's for a slightly larger steel. I purchased the steel here in Cincinnati in 1973 from my teacher/mentor/friend Lloyd Hazelbaker. It's original to my knowledge except one key has been replaced and the cover over the bridge for both necks has been removed. Serial #508952. $1350. We can discuss shipping costs if the buyer is not within a reasonable distance. I tried to attatch a couple photos but I'm not sure if it worked. I have many other photos I can email. My address is: steve_m@camargoinsurance.com. As of 12/6/11 - this steel has been sold.

Very nice! I have the 1940 model with trapezoid style pu/s and 3 legs and I play it out regularly with a Hank tribute band. Great sounding piece of history!
