Doug, you have my sympathy for your loss. I once had a new Fender 1000 and a new Standel
Custom amp stolen from the club where I worked. My homeowners insurance did not cover the loss so I had to not only pay off the installment contract on the stolen new guitar and amp, but so I could continue to work I also had to finance another guitar and amp and that meant double payments. It took a lot of time and financial sacrifice to recover.

Hang in there my friend and someday it will only be a story to tell.....

Doug,
I'm so very for your loss..and I am hoping you will get it back soon...I know it has got to be a devastating blow...
I hate to say it, probably when you catch up to it, it will involve someone you know, or a frequent patron of the club...they don't just 'happen' to break in the club and 'luckily' find a treasure such as your guitar...
Blake Fougerousse's Dad, played a set down job for months and months..and when it ended, he packed up his steel and all his equipment, and put it at the clubs backdoor..Since it was pouring down rain, he left it and came back for it the next day..It was all gone..they found his pack-a-seat floating in the Arkansas river..Never got the steel back..figured it was on the bottom of the river...
Some one who was probably familiar with the band, made a haul of a persons way of making an honest dollar...
So best of luck in your retrieval endeavor..see you soon I hope my friend..

Douglas, I'll keep an eye out for your guitar too. Maybe you should post this in the pedal steel section instead of here as a lot more people read over there. You gotta wonder about people who sell steels on Ebay and they know absolutely nothing about them... I think a guitar as unique looking as yours will eventually turn up for sale somewhere and be recognized.

Doug, I am sorry to hear of your bad luck.
I've got a mental pic of your guitar and I'm sure bells will go off if I should happen to see it. This thief may have bitten off too big a chunk to chew, what with this unique front congig and color combo, it should stand out easily. Getting the word out to the Steel community will surely cause everyone to be vigilant and hopefully lead to it's recovery.
Instrument insurance is also available through a company that co-operates with your local Musician's Union. It's pretty reasonable, but I believe you must be an AFM member to qualify. Maybe someone who has all the details will post the info here. JO.

Doug, I am an agent with a major insurance company and our homeowners policy will cover instruments which are not used to earn over a certain amount a year. I believe the figure is $5,000.00. I would certainly suggest that if you have not asked your homeowners carrier about covering your loss that you do so. I believe instruments not used professionally are covered as personal property by most companies and you have to earn a certain amount playing to be considered a professional. I am sure that amount varies with different companies.

If you need to borrow an amp I have extras (Session 400's)that you are welcome to use for as long as is necessary. Just drop a line and I'll get them to you. It would be a good idea to post the serial number of the guitar, Bruce has it if you don't. Sorry for your bad luck buddy, I'll be on the lookout in Branson.

Okay guys I have gotten the serial # for the guitar. From the books the D-10 was listed as a SD-10 with numbers being 55760. It is a long story on that one. Bruce was familiar with the guitar too.

Hey Doug, I'm very angered and saddened to learn of your loss. I understand a little of the violated feeling you're experiencing because several years ago I had my Tele stolen from a "locked" room at a church. It turned up 5 months later in a local pawn shop and I eventually got it back but it's a very sickening "gut churning" ride to take. I just hope your beloved returns to you soon and in good condition. I'll keep my eyes open. Courage brother.

Thanks guys for all your support.
I cant believe I was so incredibly stupid to leave her. I have not heard any information yet except that there has been a rash of musical equipment being stolen in Joplin. So all musicians in the areas surrounding you all need to take special precautions for you equipment. Do not leave it in a trailer. Apparently a whole trailer was stolen recently.
Lets stop these guys from doing this anymore.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your Zum and I to will be on the lookout.Like everyone said, the steel guitar community is a close knit bunch of people and this guitar would be an easy one to spot.I will call other music stores in this area and a buddy of mine is the manager of one,of three,pawn shops in the rogers and springdale arkansas area.If I can help in any way let me know.

Guys Red is still out there somewhere. I am activly looking for another guitar. Have about 1200 dollars or so to spend at the time. So a Single 10 would be great.

There is nothing lower than a thief or a liar, unfortunately if a person posses one of these poor qualities they most likely posses the other also. I will keep an eye out for your guitar in this area and alert some of the local music stores in Independence, Missouri to be on the look out for it also. I had a 1974, cream white Telecaster stolen from the Club Royal in Kansas City in 1984 later on I found out a boy friend of one of the bar maids stolen and sold it for drug money, I heard for $40.00. Fortunately he died from a drug overdose later on, which I consider to be a good deal for all mankind. I sincerely hope you find your guitar and soon.

I hate to hear things like this, but it goes to show that you need to carry a rider insurance on instruments that are left in night clubs cause they will get stolen, or just take an older guitar and an older amp.I hope you find your Zum and I will keep my eyes out if they turn up on e-bay.

Douglas, I’m sorry and mad to hear about it. It’s a beautiful steel with the very destinctive Zum-look, so I’ll keep an eye open for ya on what is put up for sale in Europe!
Hope you find a substitute, comforting though them Zums are born with the ability to learn your licks! Jeppe
