Clamp on
Here's a pic of it clipped on a tone bar the same size as a standard steel guitar leg. Hope this explains it. It just snaps on tightly.
thanks for asking

Al, can you estimate how much weight the music stand can hold before it falls off? I sometimes work with binders of sheet music, not hugely heavy, but do need something that can hold a 3 ring binder, up to 50 sheets of paper, and my clip-on reading light (it's just a few ounces).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Chart stand
Hello John, I have put a full ream of paper on it to test it and it held fine. you are able to rotate the clip so it isn't a straight push off and that would help also.

Just wanted to post a short endorsement for Al's Music & Mic Stands. Both great products that work great, and really reduce the footprint of your setup, at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them, and his service, second to none.

Al's accessaries
Hey Guys and Gals,
I have all of Al's products and whether it is the drink holder, the Music stand, Mic-Boom holder, etc. they all work great and are so nice to have at your disposal. I take them all with me to jams as well as gigs. So helpful and easy to use. Thanks Al.
