Pick Blocking Mechanics

Post by Eldon Cangas »

I need to be sure about this. My undestanding is to pick block you do the following:
1. Pick the desired string with the desired finger
2. Let it ring for as long as need be
3. "Block" the ring by placing your original picking on the string.

This is how I'm doing it is it correct??
Any comments would be appretiated.

Thanks Eldon

I may be doing it wrong; but I may block it with my thumb which is most of the time. It all depends on what gets picked next.

There are some great videos on YouTube if you search for pedal steel blocking. Generally it's blocking with the same finger you plucked with, however sometimes it does depend on where you are going.
