Second North Texas-Sothern Oklahoma Gathering

Today we had our second meeting that was held in Ponder,Texas at the Denton County Cowboy Church. Man, there was so many more new faces this meeting than last. I love to jam but meeting and making new friends is a priority to me. I had a great time and look forward to getting together in the future. There were several Mullen guitars, a couple of Emmons guitars, a Carter guitar, a Simmons guitar and a ShoBud as well. Hopefully I did not leave anything out. Thanks guys for the pleasure of getting to jam and meet new friends. Also, Thanks to Monty Montgomery for being a gracious host and their band for playing as well as some others.

Paul, it was great to meet you yesterday, as well as finally getting to meet a few other players that I had only previously met online or over the phone. I had a great time playing, and listening to some great music. I hope this becomes a regular event, I'll look forward to the next one!

Paul, it was great to see and get to play with you and David, Mark, Monty and everyone else at the jam. My thanks also to Monty and the Denton Co. Cowboy Church and band for playing with us and bringing those cookies and drinks. I really look forward to the next jam. DA

I met several people on Sunday and my head is still swimming trying to remember names. I had a blast. Making friends is a big deal to me. As Jackie Harmon stated we are trying to keep steel guitar alive and well. I will add that Jackie is a fantastic musician and a fabulous singer. Thank you Jackie for all you did at the jam. I look forward to the next one. Oh yeah, I finally got to meet Charles Tilley and he is a super guy and plays very well.

A Great Big THANKS to everyone who came to the gathering in Ponder Sunday afternoon. I had a ball...and so good to meet new friends....great pickers all of you guys. Jackie, thanks for some great bass picking!! I like that new Mullen you have...sure is a beauty!! David A., thanks for coming back to pick up Jackie's bass. I wasn't much of a host/MC. I think we need someone to MC the gatherings who has a desire and gift for that. It was good "picking" however. Much thanks to you who drove quite a distance to play only a few songs. I think about the guys at the TSGA Jamboree...the Main Stage...coming from so far and sometimes only getting to play 6 or 7 tunes, and sometimes sharing that with a vocalist, fiddle, lead, etc.
Thanks to Mark G. for starting this up last month in Gainesville. Mark, we need to talk and plan something special for the next gathering.
Thanks also to Billy Stout, the DCCC Band
drummer, who didn't have a break!! And to Bobby Stout, the Worship Leader at DCCC, for asking the church leaders to let us use the facility at no charge, and for running the sound!!

I agree with Monty. The guys at the DCCC are a great bunch of guys. Thanks to Bobby Stout, Billy Stout who played drums and their brother-in-law Shawn who helped out on bass. Thanks to the church for use of the facility at no charge. Those guys have a good band and they play real country music too.

Thanks Gary for coming. It sure was good to see you again. I want to remind you everyone starts out at the bottom and works their way up. I promise you that you keep playing and practicing you will be no different that any other steel player. I hope to see you at the next meeting.

Are your meetings at a regular time? I'd like to know, I'm in town (Ft Worth) from California every so often, visiting my mom. I grew up in FtW, and went to college in Denton. I'd like to stop by some time.

Dean, This is the second meeting we had. The first was in Gainesville and the second in Ponder. Mark Greenway has set these up and plans on moving them around to help other steel players who would want to attend. There is talk about going into Oklahoma as well since he and I are close to the state line. The title says North Texas Southern Oklahoma but anyone is welcome. We would love to have you attend if possible. As of right now every other month is what we have had but that could change with interest and a place to meet at. I personally have enjoyed these jams and meeting new people. I would imagine the next one would probably be in January but I have not visited with Mark to confirm that.
