I think his dates may be off. The three amps I have seen that matched this description all seem to be 1950 and from a single music store in Indiana. I have a 1950 V-Front Super that was made lIke this. I confirmed with Jody Carver thaatsugi were special order. A friend asked Billy Gibbons and he has a similar V-Front Super.

Chris,
That's my amp. I think you and I emailed, or pm'd, about our amps a couple, three years ago??? The reason I said late '52 or early '53 is because of the "wide panel" cabinet, which John Sprung, in his Fender Amp Book, says were introduced in the 1953 catalogue, but might have been shown at the 1952 summer NAMM show. Mine is a 5B5, with three 6SC7 tubes. Serial # is just shy of 3,800. Is your serial # in that range?
What is the grillcloth like on your amp? Smooth, brownish?

Chris,
The first amp like this, I saw at Corner Music in Nashville. I was there wanting to buy a tweed Twin. In the Mid-Eighties, I was using my '56 Pro Amp, and was pushing it too hard. Needed a Twin. Thought I could afford the gray painted, wide-panel Twin, because I thought the tweed had been stripped off. The store owner told me that the paint was "factory," and the amp was not for sale, and was a part of his private collection. He said it was the first year of issue for Twin Amps, and that it was a '52. He also had a name for that finish. Something like "RokTek."
It would be nice if you could get a letter from Jody, documenting his memories of this rare series.

Found out the name of the finish/paint. Not "RokTec," but ROXITONE.
