I'm speechless...just checked the forum for the first time in a few days, and this. I really loved Red, he always sang on my sets in Dallas. I'm surely going to miss him. My condolences to Red's family. Jody

Really shocked.

We had a great hang in St. Louis last month. He was so full of life and joy, seemed to be doing great with his recovery. Didn't see this coming.

Miss you Red. Thanks for all the great energy...

Sad news indeed. I feel blessed that I was able to play with Red as many times as I did.

This is really sad news. Vangie Fich told me yesterday as I have not been on the Forum for a few days.
Red stopped by our booth and visited with Ray Montee and me in St. Louis. He looked great and had an upbeat attitude. I am so glad he was able to make the convention and have many opportunities to sing. He always a real positive contribution to every set he participated in. He will be greatly missed by the steel guitar community and though I did not know him well, I too, will miss him. He always had a smile on his face and great sense of humor.

After listening to Red's testimony during LT Zinn's set at the Gospel Show in St Louis, I introduced myself to Red and he hugged me like a long lost friend. Friends like that are hard to come by.

I've been on the road in Maine for weeks and had no idea. What a loss...I sure enjoyed meeting him and hearing him sing in Lakeland R.I.P. Red.

Truely a sad day for all who new him. I only met him a couple years ago, but grew to love him in a matter of minutes. We loose a great friend to the steel guitar community and God agains another great voice in his heavenly choir

Red was more than a friend - he was an inspiration to me; a portrait of the best that humans can become. His spirit will live on in all of us.

I am sorry to hear about Red. I got to meet him at the steel convention a few years back and his enthusiasm for the steel guitar was inspiring. I also loved his singing and the tunes he picked were always classics. My condolences go out to his family. May he Rest In Peace.

Red Kilby

 WHAT!That was my exact thought when I saw the news on another thread. I had thought about Red about a week or so, but never posted an inquery about him so this is the ultimate shock. I met Red first at the SWSGA my first time and he came up to me with a Sho-Bud hat for sale, I gladly bought it and have it still. I got his CD RED KILBY from him last time I was at the SWSGA and loved every song on it, my favorite song was his AKA Gumpys Girl. May God Send Reds soul on your "Railway To Heaven" as the Engineer with his hands on the throttle.

I am so sorry to be late in posting. My computer is still not on line. I was very shocked and saddened to hear about Reds passing. I will alway remember the Sunday morning at this years ISGC when Red myself and Joe Casey spent those last few hours talking over breakfast. We were all getting ready to head home.We talked about him going to Florida and doing a show that Joe would book at his Lodge, and I would be part of the backup band.He looked so well and I sure thought he was well on the road to recovery. If I ever hear another train whistle I will know it's Red calling me again.RIP my good friend.

Wow... so sad to hear... I had not been on the forum for a bit... loved his singing in Dallas (missed him in St. Louis this year)... he'll be missed. Condolences to his family...
We're all so caught up in wanting to sound different, wanting to sound original-- but we should stop trying so hard. We're all unique at birth. We'll come out sounding original without giving it a thought. (Feet Rogers)

Like many others, I met Red at the conventions and talked to him as well.
One year I was wearing my Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association tee shirt and he said "Rhode Island! I used to live there...I want one of those shirts!"
Apparently he lived in Cranston, RI before moving to Colorado.
I guess he was known just about all over the country. What a great legacy...
