I'm amazed at how many are having 3rd string trouble! Back when I was still gigging 5 to 7 nights a week, and from 8 pm until 2 am every night, I never had a problem. Changed the whole set every 4 to 5 weeks. Changed the 3rd, and occasionally the 4th when I had to adjust the tuning on those strings more than twice a night. SIT Stainless, Fender string stretcher, Kline U-12.

Is it breaking close to the end of the winding,if so try to find a tighter wind if the winding isn't down far enough from the top of puller it will flex in the same place and break. It depends where the string breaks where the trouble might be. I used to have a SHO BUD permanent that broke at least 2 5th strings every night I think the pins the string hooks on was too close to the top of the pulling finger. good luck.

Well,,,,, my first Shobud, back in '72, broke 3rd strings, constantly, and in just the same place. I cut a tiny piece of thin leather, not quite as wide as the finger, and just long enough to go past the end of the winding. Immediately stopped breaking those 3rd strings! Don't exactly know why it worked, but it worked like a champ! Smeared a little silicone on the back, and glued it to the finger.
