PSD is an hallucinogen with pedals and knee levers. It'll melt your mind permanently. :P

That's and old, pre Ultra GFI. Note the two piece (sustain robbing) keyhead.

Decent price though.

Personally, I think you would get more response if you would post the Pic''s directly here on the forum. For me at least, the pic's download really slow from your site. I finally gave up,,,got tired of waiting to see pic's.

Thomas PSD, GFI PSD, and Magnatone For Sale

Post by Jack Pelamati »

I've enjoyed reading the forum the past few months. Yes, all of them are for sale. I'm still trying to determine a fair price on the Thomas and magnatone. Any advice for a
squash farmer?

Indeed.

1900.00-2000.00 for the Thomas.

1450.00-1600.00 for the GFI.

600.00-700.00 for the Magnatone.

All plus shipping.

About the strange pedals. My brother mentioned the original owner only had a left leg. And thinks they go A B C from left to right and the lever is D or E.

I'm starting wonder now if I can even sell a squash.

Thomas PSD, GFI PSD, and Magnatone For Sale

Post by Jack Pelamati »

There have been a few questions asked about the GFI and Thomas guitars which I couldn't answer because I'm not a player. So I took them to Steel Guitars of North County and Jim was kind enough to take a look at them.

1)The GFI has a standard Emmons set-up.

2)The Thomas might only be worth $1900-$2000 to the right player. It only as two knee levers and the E9 side has a strange set-up which most players might want to have reconfigured. I can pay Jim to make the adjustments or the buyer could take it to their own guy. It would cost roughly $250. The other side has a standard Emmons set-up.

He also suggested a fair price might only be $1400-$1700 and hinted he prefers to be on the low side. So we'll consider all reasonable offers plus shipping and paypal fees.

I hope there aren't too many more technical questions as I'm running out of resources to get answers. Please don't trouble Jim with any questions - I only dropped his name to validate that someone knowledgeable took a look at them.

Thanks again everyone..

Magnatone

Post by Eric Gross »

I received the Magnatone, it is in good shape considering it's age and was extremely well packed by Jack. One of the switches was a little intermittent so right now the guitar is in pieces to see whether the switch can be cleaned or needs to be replaced. The guitar will be cleaned up and need to add a few missing screws to the tuners and it should be fine.

There was a little worry at first that something was wrong with the pots or pickups, because when turning the tone knob it was not a linear change in tone/volume. But now that I sketched out the circuit I realize it is a combo tone/blend pot and so that is expected. Considering rewiring with a stacked pot to separate the tone/blend.

All in all I am happy with the purchase and can't wait to get this up and running.

Jack informs me that the GFI has been sold. The Magnatone picture takes me back... I had an identical guitar before I got my first real pedal steel. It was the instrument I learned to play on.

For anyone who's on the fence about the Thomas: There weren't a lot of them made but they are really good guitars. Barry Thomas designed an excellent pedal steel. He wasn't a garage builder - he had a fully equipped shop with several employees and was producing these at a fair clip when personal circumstances forced him to close the business. People who were lucky enough to get one are very happy with their Thomas pedal steel.

The Thomas just sold to a fella visiting the local area who saw an ad placed elsewhere before I knew about the SGF.
