I'm looking for some Ideas on replacement pickups for my '76 Classic D-10. What fits the best, wide mount, or narrow? I believe the originals are single coils, anybody with experience with singles and humbuckers?
Should I even change them? They are slightly microphonic, but that's not always a bad thing. Anyone know what the O.E. specs are on the originals, what they were wound to in Ohms?

Thanks Paul, so the MSA pickups are supposed to measure 19k ohms on both necks? What about the Single or humbucker with the MSA's? Are they single coils?

Obviously Lane, but I seem to recall seeing something about these stock MSA SS pickups before I was an MSA owner. I think it was something about them being a different kind of single coil. Anybody??

No doubt about that, Dave! My curiosity has me wondering what some TrueTone's or George L's would sound like though!

A little thinner maybe a little cleaner...not worth disturbing the original wiring IMHO...that guitar is a pretty rare example of an MSA D-10 at it's best...just sayin', Regards, Dave

Hell, I'm thinking about refinishing it! Bad Idea? Should I just leave her all original?

egads Todd. you must be just tryin to get me on a soap box here. What is refinishing it going to do for your playing? It's an instrument not a piece of furniture. Just play the thing. If you bought Willie's guitar Trigger would you refinish it? Generally refinishing an instrument reduces it's value by 1/2 according to the Vintage Guitar price guide. Personally I would not buy a refinished guitar unless done by the builder. Just MHO.

Ha! Just kiddin' you Dave, I know you're a big MSA fan Winking Thanks for the compliment. I agree, a beautiful, well built guitar! I would like to get one of the newer MSA logo's to put on it, but I'm told they won't sell a logo Sad

Any info on the pickups? Should they both be around 19k ohms? Humbuckers or SC's?

Those pickups are humbuckers. I took mine apart to have them repotted, so I am certain.

My opinion: Some Goerge L's (ECOuple 66 and 10-1 rear) would make it sound like the modern steels of today. or a couple custom wound Trutones; my opinion. If you like the growl the stock pups are it, they sound fantastically Vintage.
