Jules Ah See with Alfred Apaka - CD recommendations?

Post by Frank Nims »

Hi, I'm looking for recordings by the great Jules Ah See. I know he worked with Alfred Apaka - but amazon.com (for example) lists 59 Apaka recordings avilable. Can anyone narrow it down and recommend 2 or 3 particular Apaka CDs (or LPs) to check out?

Frank, get all the released stuff possible, and then find the links here to Basil's post of the Tapa Room tapes, they are the Alfred Apaka and his Hawaiian Men, Holy Grail.

Thanks! However ... assuming a guy couldn't afford to buy every Alfred Apaka release (at this point in time): are there any that you would particularly recommend to such a person (to start with)?

As for the Tapa Room tapes, "Unfortunately, the file is no longer available" sez mailbigfile. (And I did try the most recent link.)

Hang on! I'm down in Tucson visiting my family. I'll be home Thursday, and I'll post what Jules cuts I have when I get back. Keep nagging me. - Jack

Perhaps the best known is this one.

Volume 1 The Best of Alfred Apaka and the Hawaiian Village Serenaders:

With Jules on steel. (Fender pedal steel in fact, if I'm not mistaken.)
