Topic: Ripping segments from a DVD |

Don't know if this is the right place for this..
I have a DVD of different pieces of home movies.. e.g. our kids, at the start, then a trip we made, then a wedding we attended, then my parents,(now deceased).. I have several DVD's. like this. What I'd like to do is take all the movie segments of parents & put them on one DVD, then all segments of the kids & put them all on one DVD.. The original camera is not available. Is this possible, & if it is, what is the best way to do this.?? Can I grab the pieces or segments, & store them seperately in a folder, then burn them to a DVD later?

Hi Jolynyk, I just spotted this, and see no one has replyed.
If you have Windows Movie Maker, or some other video editing
program on your computer, you can just select and copy whatever
files you want, and put them it the order you want and burn to DVD.
Hope this will help you some. Carl

| Carl I can't get Windows Movie Maker to grab pieces off the DVD.. Maybe doing something wrong.. |

Jolynyk, The DVD will have a lot of files on it, some won't be video files.
The video files will probably have a VOB extension on them. Movie Maker will
not read VOB files. Go to your hard drive and create a new folder and rename
it MY VIDEOS or something, then copy the VOB files on DVD into that folder. It
will take a while. After they are all copied, rename the VOB extension on every
file to MPG. EXAMPLE: change VTS_01_2.vob to VTS_01_2.mpg on all of the files.
Now you should be able to copy them into Movie Maker in whatever order you want them.
If you have a problem, or your DVD files are not VOB files let me know and I'll tell
you what you can do to convert them. Hope this will work for you. Let me know.

| Hi Carl my Video files say VTS_01_0 , VTS_01_1 , VTS_01_2 etc.. I tried adding .MPG behind them, but Movie Maker still doesn't recognize them. |

Do they have anything at all behind the VTS_01_0
There should be something like .avi/.mov/.mpg or
something to tell what type of file it is. Files
must have an extension on them for any program to
be able to use them.
If you want, send me a very short file (less than
10MB) and I'll try to find a solution for you. If
I find a way, I'll send it back for you to try out.
