Portland Or steel jam Oct 23rd

Time again to gather the steels and crank them up. We will again be at the Milwaukie Elks lodge Sunday Oct 23rd, 1-5 pm come early to set up we start right at 1:00.

This time Wes and I are going to put together about 12 songs using Band in a Box. Almost every other jam in the country does this and we are going to try it this time. If we do not like the key or the bpm we can change them on the fly.

We are OPEN to recommendations for songs.

They must be easy for Everyone to play - Tie A Yellow Ribbon is OUT.

These are all familiar songs, easy to play, with a variety of E9th and C6th to keep most everyone happy and involved. Remember it is all about the brotherhood.

Until then put some new strings on your guitar and loosen up those old fingers, as we be picking now.

If anyone in the Portland area would like to practice up for the upcoming steel jam, I hold a practice session every Tuesday night at my place in Wilsonville. I will have the same band in a box tracks to practice the songs from the jam available. We have plenty of room, and extra guitars if you don't want to bring your instrument, just show up. We start every Tuesday night about seven, just give me a call if you need further information.

Once we settle on the list I will have Lynn post them on his page. I am trying to keep it simple so everyone can play every song, remember it is all about the brotherhood, the music is what brings us together.

Larry, You know I appreciate you but in my opinion:

I think that the proposed song list is a little heavy in rock/rhythm & blues based material and weak in the western swing dept? I'd bet most steelers are more comfortable jamming to either country or western tunes as compared to 60's rock/blues.

Kansas City (old and tired R&B tune)
Hold It (simiiar to Kansas City, but with a turnaround)
C-Jam Blues (great Basie tune)

Maybe lose one or two of those and replace w/:

Deep Water
Home in San Antone

BTW: I could live w/o ever playing Steel Guitar Rag again too

Though I appreciate all the effort Larry and Wes have put in to setting up this BIAB jam session ........

It seems ironic, that we steel players, who bemoan the use of karaoke and dee-jays (which contribute to the decline of live-music gigs), - are now firing the live band who has so graciously played these steel jams in the past.
